A year ago today, I was a senior in high school, and I would’ve laughed if you told me that I would be going to college at UC Davis. Born and raised in the Bay Area, I dreamed of going to college in southern California for a change of scenery. I never had much interest in UC Davis and I didn’t like the idea of a “cow town,” especially because I came from an urban area.

Now, I am beyond happy that I decided to go to school here. UC Davis is a perfect fit for me, and I honestly couldn’t imagine myself at any other school. There are many reasons that I love this school. If you are a senior in high school trying to figure out where to attend in the fall, consider joining the Aggie family for the following reasons (and more!):

1. The college town vibe

I initially didn’t want to go to UC Davis for this particular reason, but now it’s one of the reasons that I love this school so much! Going to college in a college town makes for an amazingly unique experience. It’s a lot of fun knowing that almost everyone around you is a college student, and it’s amazing to live in a town that caters to you!  As a first year, it’s often difficult to explore without a car, but in Davis, almost everything is within biking or walking distance.

2. The students

Everyone at this school is genuinely so friendly! Whether your bike has a flat tire or you just need some homework assistance, you can count on UC Davis students to go the extra mile to help you, even if they are a stranger. In addition to being kind, everyone at UC Davis is extremely academically driven. It’s amazing being surrounded by such motivated individuals, because it helps you to remain inspired and hard working as well.

3. The arboretum

UC Davis’ campus is beautiful in general, but the arboretum is my favorite part. The arboretum is our very own garden and park. I love coming here when I need to relax and de-stress, especially on days where the weather is nice. The arboretum is the perfect place to take a stroll, find solitude, and admire the natural beauty that Davis has to offer.

4. The variety of student organizations

At Davis, there are so many different student organizations! Whether you are interested in student government, Greek life, sports, professional development, cultural clubs, or more, there is a place for you. UC Davis offers hundreds of clubs for its students, and each club offers amazing opportunities and resources for its members! At UC Davis, you’ll be able to explore your passions and develop yourself as an individual.

5. The quality of education

Although it’s only my first year of college, I have been extremely impressed with all the classes that I’ve taken so far. Most of my professors have been amazing, and I’ve learned so much! The professors and the TAs are UC Davis are so talented and hardworking, and most of them care a lot about their students’ success. The quality of education at UC Davis is amazing, and I know that I’ll graduate as a very knowledgeable individual with a lot of skills that I can apply to my later career.
