How to Stay in Vacation Mode After Break Ends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Everyone knows that the worst part of any school break is having to come back to school after you’ve had a week (or more) of blissful sleeping and doing nothing on vacation. You are reminded of all the responsibilities you paid absolutely no attention to over break and before you know it, you’ve got 200 pages of reading and five labs due on Tuesday.

But in the 10 weeks between spring break and the glorious three month period that is summer break, life does not need to be a 24/7 misery fest buried in textbooks. So, here are some tips for how to stay in that happy break mindset throughout spring quarter:

Enjoy the sunshine!

Everyone knows that California residents are absolutely spoiled with beautiful sunny weather year-round and Davis is no exception. How can you resist a gorgeous campus with more than enough grassy spots where you can relax between classes, or a weekend with some farmer’s market apple juice and a blanket spread out by Central Park in downtown? Enjoy the beautiful sunshine and blue skies and you may find yourself walking around with more of a spring (pun not intended) in your step.

Play tourist for a day (or two)

This one may sound silly if you returned from travels over break, but it really does help. If you have the time (and ideally a car), taking a weekend road trip out to a beach or Lake Berryessa is a great way to have a quick getaway to take your mind off of school. If you are vehicle-less, Amtrak is a great way to get out to cities like Sacramento or San Francisco to walk around and go sightseeing.

But even if you don’t feel like hopping in a car or train, it’s easy to jump on your bike or take a walk around Davis itself and discover a new favorite place in everyone’s favorite cow town. Maybe try a new restaurant downtown or check out a cool shop you haven’t seen before.

Bask in good memories

If you went to an amazingly gorgeous place or even just hung out with friends at home for spring vacation, chances are you have pictures capturing these moments. If you find yourself descending into academic madness surrounded by deadlines and exams, look back on photos or videos or friends’ social media posts to remind yourself of all those good feels.

All in all, with Davis’s beautiful weather and great places just a drive away, spring quarter will fly by and summer will be here before we know it. Good luck, Aggies!
