How I Survived 21 Units This Quarter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Let’s start off by saying that trying to take this many units this quarter was a bad idea…

Throughout the quarter, I thought managing school, work, internships and my social life would run smoothly. Taking 21 units made me realize that there was no room for socializing or sleep. Basically, I had no life and my passion for school went down the toilet along with my sanity. Endless studying and back to back assignments became normal, attached with the stress and destroying my immune system. Taking on this much work really made me get down to business and avoid wine at all costs.

I know that all of this sounds terrible but trust me, there is good news! The last couple weeks of my fall quarter, I ended up finding something deep within myself to keep pushing. I was about ready to call it quits. Important projects came up, presentations and exams were just around the corner. But the more the teachers threw at me, the more I was challenged to get it done. To my surprise, I completed all that was due by the last week of school. I still can’t figure out why right before finals, teachers decide to just dump all the last minute time consuming assignments at students. But who knows, maybe they do want to torture us.

After endless trips to Dutch Bros (I recommend the double torture), I passed through the assignments with the motto “this too shall pass.”  I just kept thinking to myself. “I’m never doing this again and I can’t wait to party.” Now here is the good part. After I was done with finals, to my surprise, I got A’s and B’s in all of my classes. Now, I was forsure I was going to get a D, but the multiple choice gods are on my side!

I don’t really recommend taking this many units unless you are  trying to graduate on time. Save yourself the stress and stick to the minimum. Happy Holidays everyone!
