12 Things We Learned From Gilmore Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

We all watched it at least once in our lives (but, probably a lot more than just once), whether it had been on its weekly airdate or in reruns.

With the Netflix Gilmore Girls revival wrapping its filming in the next week and an informal announcement for its November release, it’s about time we start reflecting on the many valuable lessons we learned throughout the first seven seasons of the Emmy award-winning series.

1. Small town living can’t necessarily be as boring as it sounds.

It’s just so quaint…

2. Eating endless amount of junk food and abstaining from exercise does not, in fact, leave you with a slender, girlish figure.

(Because of course, we’ve tried it, and it ended in a muffin top and a serious need to buy a larger size in jeans.)

3. And yet, there should never be any shame in enjoying some good old-fashioned comfort food with a friend.

4. If a guy makes you a chuppah, or anything else that may involve carving delicate figures and a great deal of time and patience, jump him right away.

5. Don’t settle, in any aspect of life.

And that really means not being afraid to ask for what you want.

6. As close as you are to your grandparents, there will always be some things they won’t fully understand about you.

7. You need to handle your stress, taking it as it comes.

One Monday at a time.

8. But being self-sufficient doesn’t mean you don’t need your parents as an adult.

And more often than not, the support will be mutual.

9. Be honest with yourself.

10. And never apologize for being you.

You do you.

11. Being spontaneous is important, even if it’s not in your nature.

(Thanks, Logan.)

12. Because some things don’t work out exactly the way we want them too, but that’s okay.

But in this case, they do work out. Because the Gilmores are on their way back to us!
