2016 AMS Elections and Referendum Results

Between February 29th and March 4th, UBC students took to the online polls and voted for their 2016/2017 student government representatives, and on referendum questions related to the governance of UBC. Read on for the results:

AMS Referendum Questions

 

Keep the U-Pass (with small fee increases):

PASSED

You should not question this one – you WANT the U-Pass.

Health and Dental Plan:

PASSED

Small structural change that shows no sign of taking anyone’s money in the near future.

WUSC (World University Services Canada):

PASSED

This change entails a small student fee increase that will go towards supporting refugee students at UBC.

Bring Back the Gal:

PASSED

This is meant to direct the AMS to create a new food/social space that is reminiscient of the Gallery (old SUB favourite).

Campus Culture and Performance Fee:

PASSED

Intended to contribute to student performance and cultural groups on campus.

By-law and Constitution:

PASSED

Ensures AMS is in line with BC Societies Act.

$4.20 AMS fee increase:

FAILED

This fee increase was intended to support services such as SafeWalk and the AMS Foodbank, whose costs are rising.

By-law referendum and revisions:

FAILED

This revision would have allowed the Council (governing body of the AMS) to decide on

question phrasing and wording without consulting those asking questions.
