After surviving the long, never-ending weeks of fall term, the dark days of finals, and the brief winter break, UBC students everywhere are rejoicing that we have no classes this week. Reading week, which only exists in the winter term, is a much needed time to physically and mentally rest, catch up on readings and assignments, and get out of Vancouver for a few days. Why are we only able to enjoy this wonderful gift in the winter term?
I, along with many of my fellow peers, believe that UBC students deserve the gift of reading week in the fall term as well. To express my love for reading week, I’ve compiled ten different reactions and emotions that UBC students feel during the break. I hope that this list will convey the joy that reading week brings to UBC students, and why these emotions should not be solely limited to the winter term. Enjoy, HCUBC cuties!
1. The feeling when all your midterms are crammed into one week…
2. …But then you realize you don’t have class for the next 9 days
3. You’re super excited for a guilt-free Friday night
4. When was the last time you could sleep in as late as you wanted?
Never. You can’t remember the last time.
5. Some head to the airport ready to conquer the world
6. Others stay in Vancouver but are as content as ever
7. For the first time, Monday’s aren’t so bad
8. You know your assignments still exist, but you’re super excited for all this free time
9. You excitedly jam-pack in as many adventures you can before the break ends
10. Even though you are sad classes are back, you are so happy reading week happened
