Her Campus Wyoming’s very own Xanthe Yorke is this week’s Campus Cutie! Xanthe is overflowing with passion and sass; two of our favorite things here at HCUW. This gorgeous freshman hails all the way from Mexico…AKA where she calls “home” is the place we call “Spring Break Dream Destination.” Naturally, we had to share some of her bubbly love with our readers. Read on, and don’t blame us if you fall head over heels for this sweet and spunky girl.

Her Campus: What made you choose Wyoming?

Xanthe Yorke: “My brother is also a student at UW, living so far away from home I thought it would be a good idea to have someone here who can help me if ever need it. Also, I walked around campus the summer before my senior year of high school and I loved it!”

HC: Looking back on your first semester of college, what advice do you have for incoming freshmen?

XY: “I’d say just be yourself. I know it sound really cliche, but you attract the right kinds of people that way. And get to know your professors!!”

HC: What is your favorite color?

XY: “Yellow.”

HC: Tell us a little bit about growing up in Cabo. What is the biggest difference culturally?

XY: “I guess it’s pretty well known that the concept of ‘personal space’ is almost nonexistent for some mexicans, so it was really hard for me to keep myself from hugging and kissing someone when we are being introduced. Also, because Cabo is such a small city, I’m used to knowing a lot of people, and that’s obviously not the case here.”

HC: Describe your idea of a perfect date.

XY: “A perfect date would consist of getting ice cream and then driving around town and exploring new places. The icing on top would be a potted plant instead of flowers haha!”

HC: What is your favorite holiday movie and why?

XY: “Home Alone, because I could identify with Kevin (my mom forgot me everywhere).”

HC: What is your favorite book and why?

XY: “Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, because it’s a love story and cookbook all in one!”

HC: Who are your celebrity crushes?

XY: “Patrick Dempsey.”

HC: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

XY: “My parents. They’ve worked so hard for everything they have now and are still the most selfless people I know.”

HC: If you could have anything from Santa Claus, what would it be?

XY: “A plethora of books.”

HC: What is your favorite thing about winter?

XY: “Beanies!!”

HC: What is your go-to Netflix show or movie?

XY: New Girl, hands down. One of my life goals is to be as cool as Jess.”

HC: What is your dream job?

XY: “I want to be a social worker. I’m not sure where I want to work, but I want to be involved with families and the elderly.”

HC: What is your favorite food?

XY: “Green enchiladas with beans.”

HC: Any exciting hobbies?

XY: “Riding my bike. My friends tell me I don’t ride my bike so much as fall off of it. Yes, if you’ve seen someone fall it’s probably me!”

HC: What is your favorite thing to do in your free time in Laramie?

XY: I like walking around downtown with friends. There are so many antique stores, it’s INSANE!!

HC: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

XY: “Cuba.”

There you have it, Pokes! This selfless sweetheart has a heart of gold and a mind of diamonds, and we absolutely love having her on our writing staff. If you see her bright smile around campus, don’t be afraid to show her some love (or recommend a good book!). We love you, Xanthe!

Lauren is a senior at the University of Wyoming pursuing a degree in Marketing. She is the Founding Campus Correspondent of Her Campus at the University of Wyoming, and could not be more in love with her staff and the Her Campus community at large. This California native grew up playing on the beaches of San Diego; and loved the water so much that she is currently a captain of the Women's Swim & Dive Team at UW. She also currently serves as the Content & Copywriting Intern at Wyoming's fastest-growing startup, Bright Agrotech. She feels fortunate to be surrounded by incredible people every day of her busy life, and to live in a world where Ben & Jerry's Phish Food, dachshunds, naps and J.K. Rowling exist. In the future she hopes to land a career at a magazine (think Miranda Priestly, minus the Devil, double the Prada), and if you ask her who her favorite politician is, she will say Leslie Knope.
