The Best (and Cutest) Coffee Shops to Study at in Victoria

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

The two most productive days in my first year were the days I went to study at coffee shops. I may have gotten more done in those two days than the rest of the semester. Somehow, I realized far too late how great coffee shops are to study in, and having coffee at your disposal definitely helps. Especially with so many independent coffee shops in Victoria, there’s always somewhere good nearby!

Hide + Seek Coffee – 2207 Oak Bay Avenue

This extremely cute coffee shop in the middle of Oak Bay has some great spots for studying, and delicious food and drinks to help you get through your studies. It’s also very insta-worthy if that’s your thing.

Township Coffee – 4343 Tyndall Road (Gordon Head)

This hidden gem in the suburbs of Gordon Head has proved to me that the best things can be in unexpected places. With lots of unique drinks, and good options for vegans (soy, almond, and hemp milk!), it’s in one of the most student-populated areas. Though it get’s busy, if you’re able to snag a window seat it’s a great place to spend a few hours procrastinating – I mean, studying…

Discovery Coffee – Multiple locations – 664 Discovery St, 1001 Blanshard St, 1964 Oak Bay Ave, 281 Menzies St, and 3587 Blanshard St

One of the bigger coffee chains in Victoria, it deserves its great reputation. They always have good music playing, no matter the location, but if you need silence to study, the Discovery Street location has a separate area for doing quiet work. Or, if it’s a nice day out, the Blanshard Street location has a great outdoor seating area.

Hey Happy – 560 Johnson St

One of the highest-rated cafes in Victoria, tucked away into the heart of downtown, Hey Happy is a great place to get into your studies. The food is delicious, and if you end up feeling like you have the time and money, it’s surrounded by cute boutiques if you need to #treatyoself.

Pour Coffee – 817 Government Street

One of the few coffee shops open late (until 10 or 11 every night!) in Victoria for some late-night studying, this is one of the most popular coffee shops in downtown Victoria, and it’s easy to tell why. In addition to the great coffee, there are lots of cute plants and great window seats to appreciate the Victoria views while studying. With the inner harbour, legislature lawn, and historic buildings nearby, it’s a great place to study for a while before going out and enjoying Victoria on a nice day. And the latte art is always 10/10!

It’s worth mentioning, in smaller coffee shops it’s always good to remember your coffee shop etiquette and keep up a good reputation for your fellow students. Try not to take up too much room, or stay for the whole day and only buy one thing, especially when it’s busy!

Now go drink some coffee and keep on slaying your studies!
