Regardless of whether or not you have a kitchen, where you’re currently living (home, residence, off-campus, etc.), it’s imperative that you know how to cook. I am not going to teach you how to cook. That’s because, simply put, anyone can cook. It’s just a matter of taking the initiative to do so and putting in the necessary practice. I am also not going to tell you what to cook, because with a few keystrokes you can find just about every recipe in the world.Â
Yeah, something like that
However, there are a few things to keep in mind when cooking:
1. Your skill level. If you are just starting out, don’t rush immediately to the Food Network, because you will be in WAY over your head. Chances are, you won’t even have half the things on their ingredient list and will end up being discouraged and deflecting back to pizza pops. Start simple – AllRecipes and SkinnyTaste have worked for me in the past.
2. Nutrition is paramount. Yes, that sausage-stuffed, bacon-wrapped, chicken-cheddar casserole looks delicious, but you will feel like death itself afterwards.
Okay, I was kidding, but oh my God it exists
3. Not every ingredient on that list is strictly necessary. If you’re making eggs, yes, eggs are necessary. If you’re baking a casserole, don’t be tempted to run out and buy all ten different spices, and end up leaving them on your shelf for weeks. Â
Cooking requires practice, the reason someone can cook is because they’ve LEARNED to do so. When you’re hungry, force yourself to make some food. You’ll be grateful in the long run, and probably be a lot healthier for it.Â
As for those of you paying for residences without kitchens – all I can say is, you’ve made your choice.
Enjoy
