T’was the Night Before Finals

T’was the night before finals, and all through the town,

Not a student was clubbing, we all had a big frown.

Our pencils lined up in an order with care,

In hopes that our final exams would be fair.

Curled up watching Netflix all snug in our beds,

If you think we’ll stop watching; you’ve been surely misled.

But it’s now 1 am with ten chapters to wrap,

Oh it’s fine, I’ll settle down for an hour or two nap.

My phone vibrates and sings with a clatter,

I wipe the drool from my chin to see what was the matter.

Fourty-six texts and ten missed calls later,

My exam is today; my alarm is a traitor.

My laptop still open and phone barely alive,

I cock up and shift into caffeine overdrive.

I round up my books and what should I think?

I guess I’ll just wing it… I need a damn drink.

With a little old pen, I perk up with pride,

To hide the fact that I’m dead inside.

More rapid than eagles my courses they came,

I wipe a tear, sob, and say them by name!

“Now, Calc! Now Micro, now Bio and Chem.

On, Physics! On, Psych. On, that one DVM!”

At the top of my lungs I shout with a roar,

“I really should have studied some more.”

Now is the time; I’m immersed with worry,

I show my student card and sit down in a hurry.

While turning the pages, it doesn’t seem so bad,

Maybe I’ve got this, even if just a tad.

Three hours they pass, a certain kind of slowness,

I knew most of the exam; I even answered the bonus!

I run from campus and flee from my professor,

“Happy break to all, and until next semester!”
