A Love Letter to the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Dearest Holiday Season,

I know this is a little forward, but I wanted to tell you that I love you. I love you more and more as the years go on. You bring me so much joy and happiness that sometimes I can’t stand it. Not only do you deserve all the love in the world, you deserve to know why I love you so.

I love that you provide the happiest music around. The worst part about your time of the year is that it is high stress time for us university students. Instead of being able to spend the most amount of time enjoying you, I have to sit in libraries and cafes studying my brains out! That’s a real bummer in my opinion. However, I would like to thank you for making it a bit easier by providing some of the happiest study music I could imagine. Your music puts me in a good mood even when statistics is bringing me down. The uplifting tunes make me look forward to that time after exams where I get to spend time with family and friends. You make the burden of exams so much easier to bare than any other time of the year.

I love your decorations. I can’t lie, it becomes one of my favourite reasons to look forward to when you come around. The lights make the streets look brighter and happier; so full of life. The decorated Christmas trees look excited to fulfill their roles on Christmas day. I love all the colours that come out; the blues and yellows for Hanukkah, the greens and reds for Christmas, and we can’t forget the shining silvers. Your spectrum makes the world seem less gray and dull. You bring feelings of extreme happiness and contentment that I rarely feel during any other time of the year.

I love the way you bring my whole family together. It’s hard living away from them while I’m studying at university. With some family members, you provide me the only chance to see them during the year. It’s always nice to reconnect with them and spend time catching up. You’re like the tape that holds the paper chains together, bringing us all under the same light. You provide love, warmth, and happiness to all family events during your plentiful season. I honestly appreciate all you do to make that these memories happen.

Most importantly, I love your food. Do you know you provide some of the best food possible? I think you cause me to gain 10 pounds because your cooking is so good (although I don’t regret it… yolo). From the ham, the turkey, the Christmas cookies, latkes, Christmas coffees, holiday teas, and all other goodies you provide, I find myself in a state of bliss. I get all warm and fuzzy inside from the food baby that develops after a big meal. Thank you for that feeling; it’s one of my favorite feelings in the world. I love your tastes and smells and wonderful meals. I sincerely hope it never changes.

So holiday season, that’s why I love you. You deserve all the happiness in the world due to all the warmth you provide everyone else.
