How to get a bikini body:

Step 1. Find a bikini

Step 2. Put it on your body

You might read this and say to yourself “but it’s not that easy”. I’m here to tell you that it is. With summer fast approaching, the stress of wearing a bathing suit is enough to make even the most confident of us want to run, hide, and commit to a life of onesies and oversized t-shirts. The possibility of wearing a bikini in the very near future can be daunting, but follow the tips below and you will own the beach this summer.

1. STOP the comparison.

Have you ever scrolled through your instagram, checked your snapchat and crept on Facebook just to compare yourself to someone else? Be it a random, a celebrity or even a friend. As soon as you see the coveted bathing suit picture, the comparison game starts. All of a sudden an innocent social media stalk becomes a critique session. This is the beginning of the end. Once comparison becomes a habit it’s hard to break. You stop seeing the amazing things about yourself and focus on what you don’t have. The first thing you need to is realize that you are not this person, so there will be differences. I know that we might feel a little bit guilty after watching the Victoria Secret Fashion show.

*puts down the chocolate* *heads to the gym* But you have to realize that for those women their bodies are their careers, so of course they’re going to do everything and anything they possibly can to stay at the top of their game, even if these methods are not the healthiest.

2. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

What do you love about your body the most?

Sometimes this is awkward to think about, but allow yourself a few minutes of vanity. Do you have legs that go on for miles, or a waist to hip ratio that would make an hourglass jealous? Find the things you love and  emphasize them. For long legs try the super trendy high waisted bikini bottom. If you have a booty for days try cheekier bottoms.

3. Go bathing suit shopping with a friend

In the midst of all the media influences and your inner voice you can actually lose sight of what you really look like. Shopping with a trust worthy friend or a significant other can really change your perspective. They’ll be honest about what looks good, and what doesn’t.

4. Seriously, no one is looking

So you’ve made it to the beach, and you’re at the crucial moment of the t-shirt removal. Everything you’ve eaten in the past week flashes before your eyes, you become super aware of the attractive guys playing volleyball next to you and a bead of sweat forms on your upper lip. *cue epic music*

Okay, so maybe it’s nowhere near that dramatic, but you have to realize that everyone else is so preoccupied with their own situation that they are not going out of their way to scrutinize you.

5. Just do it.

The last of these is to just do it, embrace it all- the cellulite, the stretch marks, the oddly shaped birth mark, the scar you have from falling off your bike for the first time. Wear it them with pride. Your body tells a story, be proud of what its accomplished.

Supermodel Chrissy Teigan uploaded this picture to Instagram proudly revealing her stretch marks and showing people everywhere that they have nothing to be ashamed of.

So go forth collegiettes, take the beach by storm, turn heads as you strut by and throw the onesie away (At least until winter).
