Insider’s Guide to Late Night Eats in Ann Arbor

Pizza House

Pizza house is the epitome of Ann Arbor late night eats: not only is the restaurant conveniently located (on Church Street, across from Rick’s), but it will also deliver to you wherever, and whenever you want. If we’re being honest, Pizza House may be a bit too convenient. I mean, think about all the nights that you didn’t really need that cheesy bread, but got it anyways because well, you’re a freshman and “omg cheesy bread!” That being said, I’ve never not enjoyed pizza house, so like, I don’t know why I’m complaining. Must have something to do with the freshman 15…

NYPD

NYPD has, arguably, the best pizza in Ann Arbor. Although slightly underrated in my opinion, everyone loves NYPD. But no, this pizza spot is definitely not everyone’s go to pizza place. Prime-time NYPD hours are Tuesday and Thursday evenings after a packed night at Skeep’s. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more social location on campus during these hours — really, like not even the second floor of the UGLI can compare. Ordering out NYPD is an option, but the pizza is never as good as when you are physically there to enjoy it. Despite the slight inconvenience of the location (Maynard and Willard), it is really always worth the trek. Really no complaints here.

Fleetwood Diner

Fleetwood is simply delicious. The issue with Fleetwood Diner, however, is that you have to be in somewhat of a solid mental state to physically get there — it is a real hike. And we don’t mean like NYPD — Fleetwood is really, really far from campus (Downtown Ann Arbor). But, if you want greasy food that is not pizza, this is your spot. You will not regret making the trip.

BurgerFi

BurgerFi is a great option if you are actually really hungry, and not just drunk. Go here if your night did not end up as fun as expected and you’re looking for a late night activity that involves food. The location is prime (corner of South U and South Forest) and you won’t necessarily run into that many people you know. (But if you think people won’t see you there, you are so wrong. You will make eye contact with everyone who ever existed through those huge windows).

Pancheros

In all honesty, Pancheros is just a really weird environment late at night. Half of the people there are really drunk, and the other half of the people are coming back from the library. Panchero’s — despite it’s odd demographic late at night — has a warm, quirky vibe with yummy food to boot. In short, Panch is the perfect place for when you’re walking home and decide to pick something up instead of ordering in. Fun, easy, and delicious!

BTB Burrito

BTB has simply delicious food. The location itself is slightly sketchy, but it boasts great burritos. Although BTB is undoubtedly less social as Panchero’s late into the evening, the burritos there easily beat all other options found in Ann Arbor.

South U Pizza

South U Pizza is the spot if you really just want a slice of pizza without all the frills and social scene of Pizza House. It is quick, convenient, and easy — but not really a fun social scene. The pizza is, however, pretty yummy, and I have heard awesome things about the buffalo chicken pizza! Go here if you are tired, hungry, and craving a quick slice.
