Five Must Try Food Spots in Boston!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Boston chapter.

Are you looking for new spots in Boston for date night, a midweek pick me up, or the best breakfast burrito ever? Well I have five must try spots scattered around the city for you to enjoy.

Petula’s 81 L St, Boston, MA 02127

First on this list is one of my recent go-to spots for dinner with my girls after a long week of school. Located in the trendy neighborhood of Southie and only 10 minutes away from UMass Boston’s campus, Petula’s location makes a great spot before a night out. However, Petula’s is an all-day restaurant and can also make the perfect place for brunch or lunch. During the warmer months in Boston the restaurant opens up its grand windows for that indoor, outdoor feeling, which is ideal for any summer lunch.  Brunch is only available on the weekend and the menu includes items such as their Sweet Potato Pancakes and Biscuits and Gravy. For lunch try their Steak Sandwich or Falafel Wrap. Petula’s has many great pasta options for dinner like the Vodka Tomato Pasta that has just the right amount of spice, or try their take on the classic Fish & Chips. Brunch, lunch, or dinner, Petulas’s has something for everyone!

Yvonne’s 2 Winter Pl, Boston, MA 02108

A restaurant that spared no expenses in its design, menu, or overall vibes. Going to Yvonne’s for dinner is an event in itself. This restaurant is located in Downtown Boston and was the location of one of Boston’s oldest restaurants, Locke-Ober’s. While I think that the original architecture and classic glamorous design is enough to make your reservation at the restaurant, the blended, curated menu won’t leave you unimpressed. The menu is meant to be shared amongst guests and ensures that you get the chance to try a little bit of everything. I would recommend trying the Seared Halloumi Cheese, Lazy Lobster Dumplings, or one of the Toasts like the Charred Maitake Mushroom. Yvonne’s has a long list of hand crafted cocktails that I’m sure you will enjoy. If you are going to dinner at Yvonne’s, be sure to save room for dessert! Their most show stopping dessert the Baked Alaska not only tastes amazing, but be sure to get your camera out for a video of the table-side flambé. Enjoy your truly transporting night!

Waku Waku 2 Tyler St, Boston, MA 02111 (Chinatown Address)

Ramen, ramen, and more ramen! Waku Waku has three locations, but the original restaurant is in the lively Chinatown. Enjoy the Signature Ramen, Miso Kimchi Ramen, or if you find yourself at the Harvard Square location and are fond of seafood I would recommend trying the show stopping Lobster Truffle Ramen. Pair your authentic Japanese cuisine with some Sake or Soju to truly be transported. If you are looking for a little more than ramen, be sure to try some of Waku Waku’s smaller plates including their Spicy Wings, Samurai Duck Bun, and Kariflower. Waku Waku not only has its delicious menu, but the interior design of the restaurant will make it feel like you just entered a cyberpunk futuristic movie with its neon lights and graphics. While you are in Chinatown be sure to check one of the many karaoke bars for some fun before or after your ramen!

Sonsie 327 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02115

Looking for a brunch spot before a day of shopping on Newbury or a nightcap after a long day exploring the city? Well, Sonsie might be the perfect place for you! Located in Back Bay on the very instagrammable and quintessentially Boston, Newbury Street is a prime spot for any time in the city. At brunch you can try their Raf’s Chiquiles for Sonsie’s twist on the traditional Mexican dish, the Island Creek Oysters are locally sourced and picked daily for the freshest taste, and if you are looking for something sweet I would recommend the Belgian Waffle. One of the best parts of brunch are the cocktails! Sonsie has many classic options such as a Mimosa or Spicy Bloody Mary, but if you are looking for something fun try their Aperol Spritz Pitcher. During the warmer months Sonsie opens up their folding doors so that you can enjoy the great weather with great food (and great people watching). The dinner at Sonsie is also remarkable with classics like Bolognese, Steak Frites, or the Sonsie Smash Burger. End the night with a delicious Chocolate Bread Pudding paired with ice cream or one of their many late night bite options. Day or night, Sonsie has you covered!

Bluestone Lane 27 Brattle St, Cambridge, MA 02138

Bluestone Lane is an Australian-inspired café located in Harvard Square. While it is open until 6 p.m. I would recommend going in the morning for their all-day breakfast. Whether you are looking for freshly pressed juice, one of their delicious smoothies, or their Aussie Iced Latte (iced coffee + ice cream, omg) Bluestone Lane has you covered for your drink options. The food is also nothing short of amazing and has one of my favorite breakfast burritos in the city. The BL Burrito includes everything that makes good breakfast burrito like crispy potatoes, avocado, and Bluestone Lanes guajillo sauce. Other great breakfast options include their Green Baked Eggs, Avocado Smash, and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Not only does Bluestone Lane have delicious all-day breakfast options, their lunch menu includes seasonal sandwich and bowl options for later in the day. While you are enjoying your Australian-inspired cuisine and latte you’ll feel like you are in a café on the shores of the Sydney or Melbourne coast, because of Bluestone Lanes’ perfectly curated and authentic design. This is the perfect place to go to with your girlfriends before a day in Cambridge or to enjoy an authentic Aussie Iced Latte, hope you enjoy!

Happy eating!

Hello, my name is Jade Hernandez! I am currently a third-year student at the University of Massachusetts Boston majoring in International Relations with a minor in Biology. In addition to being a part of Her Campus, I am also a member of the women’s NCAA DIII volleyball team and work as head coach of a youth girls club volleyball team. I’m from Orange County, California where I have grown up my whole life. I absolutely love going to the beach and watching the sunset. I also enjoy reading, hanging out with friends, live music, and exploring Boston. Being about 2,500 miles away from home I have had so much to explore and learn about my new city and have loved doing so with my friends by my side. Through my articles I hope to share my tips on the best restaurants, new recipes, and everything and anything else food related. I have a big passion for food and I believe it can bring many groups of people together by exploring new cultures through it. Because of this I love to go out to new places to eat and try new recipes. I am very excited to share my food journey with everyone!
