The end of daylight saving time on November 7 allowed me to have a much-needed extra hour of sleep. With the extra sleep, I didn’t want to have a typical lazy Sunday. I decided to make the most of my day and to do so on my own. I didn’t join in on breakfast plans with the girls, and I ignored my Snapchat notifications for hours. I needed a day of just me. Sorry, mom, I know it was your birthday… talk later?

Weekends always seem to fly by, but somehow, I had time to do so many things when it was just me. Here is everything that I did on my personal day.

First, I woke up at my friend’s place and drove home. Then, I went through all of my clothes, packing up anything that I didn’t really care to wear again. I wanted to go shopping, so I figured that going to Plato’s Closet would make the most financial sense. The company will buy clothes from you (if they are in style), which can actually be very humbling.

Then, I went to Tandem Bagel Co. for the first time! The line was long — and the wait for a breakfast sandwich was about 25 minutes — but I wasn’t in a rush, so I ordered and then sipped my coffee while waiting for my bagel sandwich. I love breakfast sandwiches, but if I’m being honest, I was not impressed. I would go again, but I’d lower my expectations.

Then, I made it to Plato’s. I sold a few articles of clothing and a pair of shoes. I also had a coupon from their loyalty program. After all was said and done, I spent only $58 and got three jackets, two pairs of pants, and a sweater, making it a successful trip in my mind.

After Plato’s Closet, I went to McDonald’s. I think that eating McDonald’s is a form of self-care within itself.

Then, I went to the car wash and called my mom briefly to wish her a happy birthday.

Once my car was clean inside and out, I went back home to change into some workout clothes. I enjoy staying active, but I have worked out less than five times since the beginning of this semester. I don’t feel like I have the time or the energy most days. Anyway, I decided I would go for a run. Even though I hadn’t worked out in forever, I ran a PR: an 8:59 mile! The run nearly killed me, so I walked for another half mile and then went back home to shower.

I wrapped up my day in a dining hall, doing homework, and eating unlimited salad.

I did a lot on my own. I do wish I had time to dye my hair and self-tan, but bedtime came quickly. It was super refreshing to not be on my phone or live by another person’s schedule. I’ll have to have days to myself more often.
