I’m Stealing My Own Heart This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Single? In a committed relationship? Just overwhelmed this semester with a million responsibilities? Give yourself some TLC this Valentine’s Day — I insist.

1. Allow yourself to indulge in some favorite foods

Everyone’s going out to eat, so why not stray from the pack and eat in?

Take the night off from sticking to those healthy eating habits for spring break and indulge in your favorite foods. Go get that Hawaiian slice from Antonio’s, and while you’re at it, place an order for a six-pack of M&M cookies from Insomnia Cookies. Don’t forget the milk!

2. Let yourself splurge

Yes, girls, we’re breaking out the credit cards for this one. Have you had a shirt in your shopping cart on Urban Outfitter’s website for a month? Or have you been putting off buying a new pair of headphones because you lost yours? Want to take a shopping trip to Northampton to ball out in some local stores?

Stop debating and do it! Treat yo’ self 2018, because it’s unjust for only couples to receive gifts this Feb. 14.

3. Netflix & Chill

And by chill, I actually mean chill. Don’t try to multitask by studying for a test, doing homework or scrolling through social media. Sometimes, taking a break from everything and just lounging and actually paying attention to what we’re doing — even if it’s not “productive” — is all we need. So, let yourself relax with a show-binging session or watching a movie with friends.

And yes, now would be a good time to break out that leftover pizza.

4. Devote an hour to self-care

Candles lit, bathtub running, and a Frank Ocean Spotify playlist blasting. It’s time for a relaxing spa night. Gather up your favorite face masks, body scrubs and bath bombs, because it’s time for some self-care, ladies.

A personal favorite brand of mine, Origins, has some refreshing face masks you can purchase at Sephora or online, but if you’re on a budget, try Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. The product is available for $11 at Trader Joe’s and Amazon, and works as a face mask, and yes, even a hair mask. Gotta love a good multipurpose steal.

5. Celebrate those platonic relationships

Platonic relationships deserve love, too! Since this V-Day is a Wednesday, it’s the perfect opportunity to gather up your squad and have that wine Wednesday you keep saying you’ll have.

Splurge on yourself: get a nice bottle to share instead of that boxed Franzia you always up end getting. Have your friends bring a cheese and some crackers, because nothing says “good friendship” like drinking wine and eating cheese in your sweatpants together on a Wednesday night. ✦
