5 Fun Things to Do When Staying In

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

So there’s nothing to do this weekend. You’re stuck inside, and homework is at the very bottom of your to do list. No worries, Collegiettes, here are a few things to add to the top:

1. Read a good book.

Do not, I repeat, do not pick up a book for class. Read for enjoyment. When’s the last time you read a book that you wanted to? Light some candles, relax, and dive into a book that you’ve picked out for yourself.

2. Bond with your roommate(s).

Bake something yummy: cupcakes, brownies, cookies, or all of the above. Paint your nails together. Gossip. Complain about school, work, and boys. Just stay in your pajamas all day and do the girly (or not girly) things you haven’t had time to do.

3. Watch your favorite series

This was probably already on your list of things to do, so just do it. Watch your favorite series all over again – a few episodes or every single season. Then take a nap because your eyes hurt…you know the drill.

4. Surf the web

Do all of the things you already do. Shop online, or just drool over things you want. YouTube videos of any and everything you can think of: cry, laugh and repeat. TUMBLR. Read Her Campus articles. Enjoy the Internet – per usual.

5. Clean your room.

Okay, so this doesn’t initially sound like much fun, but you’ve been moving things from your desk chair to your bed (…and back and forth again) all week long. Blast your favorite Pandora playlist, dance and sing while folding that pile of clothes and throwing away all the junk in your backpack. You know you need it.

Collegiettes, the message here is to relax! Staying in once in a while isn’t the end of the world. Sometimes it’s really necessary to take time for yourself. Trust me, doing one (or all five) of these things on the weekend will make you feel so much better. You’ll be glad you did!
