How to Enjoy Valentines Day From Home on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Valentines Day can either be the worst day of the year, or one you look forward to. Even some couples dread making a reservation, spending even more money after Christmas, and trying to love up to a big expectation of plans. Here’s a few ways to celebrate Valentines Day from the comfort of your home, whether you’re in a relationship or not.

1. Agree to just one small present and set a price limit.

Maybe he only buys you flowers and you buy him chocolate for you guys to share. Maybe you split an order of chocolate covered strawberries or just do small gifts for each other. Valentines Day can still be special without the price tag.

2. Turn your bedroom into a hotel room suite.

Change the sheets and make your bed nice. Throw some chocolates on your bedside table and light some candles. Run a bath with your favorite bath bomb, whether its just for yourself or with your partner. Do some face masks and just make yourself or each other feel good.

3. Snuggle and watch a romantic comedy!

Netflix has some of the cheesiest rom coms ever. Pick a random one and if it really sucks, just make out through it.

4. Buy some nice wine (if you’re 21+).

If you’re in a relationship, share a bottle with your partner and have a nice, relaxing night. If you’re single, enjoy a bottle of wine to yourself!

5. Skip the expensive dinner reservation and cook yourself!

This year I’m making Seared Scallops with Apple Cider-Balsamic Glaze with asparagus right from home. Cooking together and having fun is so much better than going to an over crowded, over priced place. And if I mess it up, we’ll just go with pizza and ice cream.

Happy Valentines Day!
