Why I’m Not Excited for ‘High School Musical 4’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

When my friend texted me in class telling me Disney was continuing the musical franchise I almost lost it I was so excited. Everything was coming together; all of my middle school dreams were coming true.

I was so excited to see where our favorite Wildcats would be. Would they be in college? Or maybe conquering the world post-college? I didn’t care what they were going to do but I was excited.

And then I found out what they were going to do.

Because in High School Musical 4, we are not going to reunite with our favorite Wildcats.

Because High School Musical 4 will tell us a whole new story…

With *gasp* a WHOLE NEW CAST.

Many people are speculating that our favorite wildcats may return for a cameo appearance, but Disney is declining to confirm.

And even if they did return, it would be for a *KEYWORD* cameo, meaning barely at all.

Philosophical Question: If there’s a High School Musical movie but Troy isn’t playing basketball, is it really a High School Musical movie?

Instead, the movie will star Campbell, the younger cousin of Ryan and Sharpay Evans. But it’s almost guaranteed that he won’t have the moves Ryan does.

And you KNOW he won’t have Sharpay-level sass.

And there’s no way the new “it couple” will be nearly as perfect as Troy and Gabriella.

I mean, it’s been 8 years and I still cry every time I watch “Can I Have This Dance“.

And when someone sings a dramatic break-up song (you know someone will), there is no way it will be able to compare to “Gotta Go My Own Way”.

I’ll probably even miss Chad, standing there in all his theater-hating irrelevance.

The only character that won’t really be missed is Taylor. And let’s face it, with my luck, she will be the only character that actually returns.

And maybe the worst part is that the kids of today will think that this is what High School Musical is and they won’t even understand why the originals were so integral to our childhood.

Who am I kidding? The worst part is definitely that there will be no Troy Bolton.

And that means no Zac Efron.

So here’s saying goodbye to High School Musical as we know it. We miss it already.
