Don’t get me wrong I love the Northeast and the seasons that come with it, but every UConn student knows and understands the struggles of going to school in Connecticut.

When you first arrive in August, it’s all fun and games until you realize it’s ninety degrees and your dorm building doesn’t have air conditioning. It’s time to hang out in the library as long as you can unless you want to become a sweaty piece of meat in your room.

Then it starts to cool down—and when I say cool down, I mean that it’s now sixty degrees. You open your window to find that it’s sunny outside. Yes! You can walk outside wearing only a sweatshirt.

Then you walk out your building and realize that the wind is strong, and you’re shivering worse than a leaf in autumn.

Don’t even get me started on the rain. It’s Tuesday morning. You wake up to the downpour outside. Maybe if I put on my boots and coat I’ll be okay.

Nope! Your clothes are still going to get soaked, and you’ll probably catch a cold. Good luck!

You probably think an umbrella will help you out with the rain. Nope! Unless there is zero wind, don’t bother taking it out! It’s only going to turn inside out and break, so you might as well just run for your life.

The winter is another story entirely. The flakes are still falling, a few inches of snow coat the sidewalks, and you’re certain you’ll trip and fall on ice if you step aside. Surely, classes are canceled.

You wish, sweetheart. Trudge the fifteen minutes (or more) to get to your class and hope you don’t break your back on the way.

Basically, if you’re a student at UConn, you better have a large supply of sweatshirts and a sturdy pair of snow boots, because once summer is over, you likely won’t get a warm day again.

Going to school in the Northeast is known to have advantages and disadvantages pertaining to the weather, but I don’t really mind. As much as I complain about the cold or the fact that I basically had to swim to class today, I can’t imagine being somewhere that doesn’t have all of the seasons. Appreciate the weather as it comes, and don’t let it ruin your day!
