Summer Walker’s latest album, Finally Over It, marks the closing chapter of the emotional journey she began with her debut album, Over It, and continued through her second album, Still Over It. This final installment appears to reflect a new stage of clarity and healing, heartbreaks, and growth she has experienced over the past five years. As the trilogy comes full circle, Finally Over It sets the tone for a more grounded, self-assured Walker — one who is ready to speak on her past while stepping into her future.

As the album unfolds, certain songs rise to the surface, revealing the depth of Walker’s growth and storytelling in this new area. Of those standout tracks, three in particular rose to top of my list.

“Finally Over it”

The title track of the album centers on a love that finally feels safe, steady, and healing after a long history of emotional turmoil. Walker begins with acknowledging that past chaos, heartbreak, and emotional instability are now behind her, creating space for a healthier relationship. She expresses a deep sense of trust and commitment, which is shown through her willingness to imagine sharing a future — symbolized by the idea of taking her lover’s last name — because this love doesn’t hurt the way her old relationship did.

“With you, love doesn’t hurt
Love is for better or worse, so I do, I do”

Walker continues to admit throughout the song that she still carries unresolved issues, insecurities, and past disappointments, yet she’s moved by the fact that her partner embraces all of her without hesitation. This acceptance makes lifelong commitment feel not only possible but natural. As the title track, it captures the emotional heart of the album: the journey from pain and doubt toward genuine, affirming love.

“Allegedly” ft. teddy Swims

This song beautifully showcases the harmonies of Walker’s and Swims’ voices as they express the overwhelming intensity of young love, blending deep affection and fear with vulnerability. Their pairing might be the first combination listeners expect, yet their voices come together with a natural ease that elevates the song’s emotion and makes it a standout on the album.

Walker reflects on having “been down this road before,” hinting that past heartbreak has made her hesitant to fully acknowledge the depth of her feelings, captured in the repeated phrase “I’m in love, allegedly.” Swims adds to this by describing how they stay up late together, sacrifice sleep, and long for more than they can afford, illustrating how love pushes them to choose each other despite their struggles. Together, they create a track that feels both sincere and relatable, leaving a lasting emotional impression.

“HEart of a woman”

In this song, Walker explores the emotional conflict of loving someone whose behavior repeatedly tests her patience, emphasizing that the only reason she stays is because of the resilience and compassion that comes with the “heart of a woman.” She acknowledges how hard it is to keep giving chances, torn between her deep feelings and the frustration caused by his ego and empty promises — something a lot of us can relate to.

As the first single released ahead of the album, the track set the tone for the project with its honesty and vulnerability, ultimately earning Walker a Grammy nomination for the 2026 awards. Its release also gained attention for featuring Serena Page and Kordell Beckham from Love Island Season Six in the lyric video, as well as featuring NLE Choppa in the music video, adding to its cultural impact.

Heart of a Woman Lyric Video

Overall, these three songs showcased Walker’s ability to blend raw emotion with smooth, captivating vocals, exploring themes of love, vulnerability, and personal growth. From the reflective title track to the intense young love in her collaboration with Teddy Swims, and the powerful resilience displayed in “Heart of a Woman,” each track highlights her artistry and emotional honesty. Together, these tracks not only demonstrate her versatility as an artist and storyteller, but also cement her status as one of the standout voices in today’s R&B.
