Poetic Release Poetry Slam with Omar Holman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

On October 12th, Poetic Release, UConn’s very own club for students with “a passion for poetry and a desire to share it with others” held a Poetry Slam and Open Mic Night at the Co-Op Book Store. The slam was hosted by professional spoken word artist Omar Holman, who brought a lot of laughter to the night and also read some of his own amazing original work.

The slam was rowdy, fun, and of course, full of amazing poets. The winner of the slam was Akshayya Chittibabu ’19, who blew the audience away with her presence and her beautiful original poetry.

The other slammers included: JJ Rogers ’19, Olivia Logios ’19, Kate Monica ’17, Reven Smith ’17 and Evan Knoll, all of whom recieved high scores from the judges and recited amazing original work.

Poetic Release hosts poetry slams and readings throughout the year, as well as weekly writing workshops on Tuesdays from 9-10:30 p.m. in the Student Union, Room 410.

Check out their website and Facebook page for information and updates.

Olivia is a Journalism and English double major who spends entirely too much time watching Netflix and is not even sorry about it. She loves to sing, write feminist musings, hang out with her pets and fantasize about a world in which everything tastes like Nutella. In another life she is best friends with Veronica Mars and married to Logan Echolls (and they're both totally cool with it).
