How to Protect Yourself from the Sunday Scaries

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Whether you spent the weekend abusing your liver or laying in bed eating sugar cereal, come Sunday night the stress of the upcoming week will inevitably raid your pillow fort and surround you with an overwhelming sense of fear, anxiety and regret. Don’t worry, even though the Sunday scaries may not be completely avoidable, they can be managed if you know how to take care of yourself.

Set an Intention

Familiarize yourself with the law of attraction: positive thoughts bring positive outcomes and vice versa. Create a positive intention for the week and focus on ways which you can manifest it to become your reality. It may be helpful to keep a gratitude journal where you write down at least three things you are grateful for each day, even if it’s something simple like a warm coat. Once you begin to appreciate the little things, you’ll find yourself stressing less over things that are beyond your control.

Get Organized

Get ahead of the Sunday scaries by creating a to-do list. This is the perfect time to whip out those colored pens and create a totally VSCO worthy planner. Separate your responsibilities for the week between what you need to do, what you should do, and what you want to do. Make sure to plan some fun activities into your schedule, such as grabbing lunch with a friend, to give yourself something to look forward to. Once your priorities are laid out, you have an absolute advantage of conquering the week. You: 1; Sunday Scaries: 0

Clean, Clean, Clean Yourself

Start the week off with a squeaky clean slate by taking a long, hot shower. Take the time to deep condition your hair and maybe even have a private concert. Throw on a face mask and a bathrobe when you’re done and have an 80’s synth pop dance party in your bedroom. You’ll feel much more productive once you’ve washed away all that weekend shame and channeled your inner diva.

Take Breaks and Treat Yourself

If you have a lot of work due on Monday, don’t wait until Sunday night to get started. Tackle your workload periodically throughout the day. Reward youself each time you finish an assignment or achieve a goal by taking a break. Watch an episode of your favorite show, go for a walk, grab a snack, take a power nap, or buy yourself a coffee — you deserve it.
