The Best Places to Study on UConn’s Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Whether it’s a roommate you just don’t get along with or a need for a change of scenery, finding a place to study outside of where you live is crucial. Knowing a few places other than library where you can focus when you’re cramming takes a bit of time to find. To save you from scouring all of Storrs, here’s a list of some of the best spots to study on UConn’s campus.

1. The Beanery

It looks cute and the food/coffee is awesome, despite being a little on the crowded side. Finding a table isn’t always easy, especially when the weather’s too cold to sit outside, but it’s still worth the search. If you can find a space to yourself, the noise around you can actually be a welcome distraction that still lets you get some real studying done.

2. The Bookstore

Coffee is the only way to survive a Saturday full of work, so why not stay as close to Starbucks as possible? It’s quiet enough even when the line at Starbucks gets busy, and if you need to focus a little more, the tables upstairs are perfect to escape the crowds.

3. South Reading Room

This is the perfect place to go if you’re someone in need of total quiet when studying and are determined to actually focus for a couple of hours. It has definite perks that it’s so much nicer looker than most the designated study spots around campus, and the endless windows make being indoors doing work a bit more bearable on nice days.

4. Lu’s Cafe

In the basement of FSB, you’ll find a bunch of tables for working and vending machines for when you take a study break. It’s always quiet and being in the basement gives you almost no distractions. It’s not frequented as often as other spots on campus, making it a perfect place to escape in the midst of exam season.

5. Good ol’ Homer B. Library

It seems obvious to come here to do work, but so many people are either too lazy to get themselves here or find navigating the many floors overwhelming. There’s never enough space and searching every floor to find your study buddy just isn’t worth it. But, when you do finally find that perfect spot all to yourself, a definite bonus is being surrounded by other people hopelessly trying to get work done. Misery loves company, and you will definitely find people to commiserate with if you make this your regular study spot.

Even with midterms coming to an end for some, there are likely some of you still in the thick of it; plus, finals will come around quicker than you think. Having a place you can go where you know you’ll be productive is crucial to saving yourself from added stress when exams come around, and these are only a few of the options on Storrs’ campus.

Happy studying!
