Packing is never fun. You have to put your whole life in boxes, and it can be really confusing. For this article, I had to consult my friend, Rachel. Rachel goes to school across the country, and because of this, she really has packing down to a science. Below are our tips for packing up your things as efficiently as possible.

1. Roll up all your clothes really tightly, and pack them close together, so you can maximize space.

2. Buy travel cases for your toiletries.  It helps to have two: one for shampoo/conditioner/bath stuff and another for face stuff.

3. All that stuff you’ve secretly wanted to get rid of over the year ’cause you know you’re not actually going to use/wear it but feel bad about throwing it out? Toss it or donate it.

4. Even if you’re not going on a plane, it can be useful to have a carry-on bag type thing where you can put all your electronics and stuff the you will want to have immediately.

5. It can be really helpful to have a completely separate bag for your bed stuff – i.e., comforter, pillow, etc. It gives you more room for other stuff in your regular bags, and it gives you a nice place to store fragile things, like perfume bottles.

6. “It really comes down to organization, organization, and organization.” -Rachel, professional packing guru.

7. Also, if you don’t have to fly, packing everything in large bags is key. They’re really easy to store and easier to carry than boxes. I really like these large Ikea bags. They’re super durable, easy to store and they’re only $0.99!

8. Start early. It’s tempting to leave everything to the last minute, but starting early can help everything move a lot more quickly. Your stress levels will thank you.
