5 Things to Do at UConn This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Fall is finally here… do something about it!

Go for a walk on Horsebarn Hill

Walks on Horsebarn Hill are a must regardless of the season, but during the fall, specifically. The combination of the smell and the feeling of fresh, crisp fall air with the sight of the myriad of warm colors on the leaves on the trees in the distance causes these Horsebarn walks to ~hit different~. So, if you find yourself needing a break from studying for fall midterms, head over to Horsebarn and take in the beauty of its nature, you won’t regret it.

Try the Fall Flavors at the Dairy Bar

I’m not sure anything screams fall more than the return of the beloved pumpkin spice flavoring. Apparently the UConn Dairy Bar agrees. Before or after your walk at Horsebarn Hill, be sure to stop by this UConn staple and try their seasonal pumpkin spice ice cream flavor. Better yet, if you’re really feeling in the fall mood, there’s a way to amp it up; order it in the new pumpkin spice waffle cone dipped in fall colored sprinkles! But, if you’re someone who’s not really into the pumpkin flavoring hype, there’s no need to worry; the Dairy Bar also has a cinnamon caramel swirl flavor and a maple walnut flavor for you to get your fall fix!

Sit on the Student Union Quad

The Student Union Quad is a great spot to enjoy the fall weather in Storrs. Whenever you have some time to spare before, after or in between classes, take a minute to sit on the Quad this fall. Relaxing on the grass, surrounded by the foliage of the trees and the masses of students playing Spikeball and other lawn games will remind you why you chose to come to a school like UConn!

Grab a Warm Drink at Dog Lane Cafe

If ice cream doesn’t really say “fall” to you, that’s okay! Head over to Dog Lane Cafe in Storrs Center and grab a warm drink (like one of their famous hot spiced chai lattes) to keep you warm and fuzzy, in your fall feels.

Visit the Coventry Farmers Market

While this isn’t on campus, I highly suggested that if you or a friend has a car on campus, you take a trip to the Coventry Farmers Market this fall. The market starts on June 2nd and runs until October 27th, is open on Sundays from 11:00-2:00pm, and it’s only about a 20 minute drive from campus. With many local food vendors as well as fresh fruits and veggies and themed events each weekend, there is so much to see and do here! The Coventry Farmers Market is a perfect way to spend a few hours on one of those crisp Sundays of fall.
