With winter right around the corner and the weather getting colder and colder, I find my mood seems to dip and I experience more depressive episodes. When I find myself experiencing this I like to turn to some of these strategies to help focus on myself and lifting my mood.

Spa Day

Definitely one of the easiest and best things you can do for yourself is to indulge in a little at-home spa day. From throwing a bath bomb into your bubble bath or putting on a face mask and painting your nails, it can be nice to participate in some of these activities to give yourself the care you deserve.

Bake Your Favourite Treats

Baking is a common thing for me and I often mention it in my articles, because it truly brings me so much joy. I find it allows me to take my mind off of everything that is troubling me and to devote all of my attention to the recipe in front of me. Also, after you’re done you get a super delicious treat which is always the best reward!

Go For A Walk

Whenever I start feeling down and like I’m entering a slump I find that going out for a walk is the best way to clear my head and get away from my computer screen. Obviously with the weather getting colder it can be super tempting to just want to stay inside, but it’s important that you push past that and get your body moving, even just for ten minutes. Put on your favourite song or podcast, grab those mitts and get outside; I guarantee you will start to feel your mood lift.

It’s Ok To Want To Lay In Bed All Day

I think there is a common misconception that even if you’re feeling sad or depressed you have to force yourself to get out of bed and go about your day. Although it can be super helpful to get moving, there is also nothing wrong with spending the day in bed. If that is what you know that you need at the moment, then don’t push yourself to be super productive. Take the day to feel through those emotions so that when the next day comes along you’re ready to get back at it.
