It’s Monday morning after a long weekend of studying and socializing. I stayed up late the night prior online shopping (of course) and binging The Bachelor finale. I hear my alarm go off and hit snooze, an instinctive reaction. My head hits the pillow, and I fall back into a deep sleep. I wake up. I am disoriented. What time is it? Where am I? I check my phone and see the time reads 9:30 am. My first class starts at 10:00 am. I do the math. If I want to make it on time to Finance while still stopping at PJs Coffee for a morning pick me up, I need to leave my dorm in 15 minutes. It’s go time!

This type of scenario is somewhat of a routine for me. Coming to college, I have had difficulty managing school, sleep, and social life all at the same time. However, throughout my past two years, I have learned 5 useful tools to use in my 15 minute morning routine. These tools ensure that I start the day on the right foot, despite running late.

Pack Your Bag The Night Before

If you don’t take away anything else from this video, please remember to pack your bag the night before school. I have been using this trick ever since I can remember. In packing your bag the night before, you will ensure that despite starting the day in chaos, when you sit down in the classroom, you will have all of your necessities to focus in class. Along with this tip, I charge all of my electronics while I sleep, so all I have to remember in the morning is to move my computer and headphones into my backpack. Some items I always keep in my bag include; computer charger, planner, pencil case, bar, hairbrush, and lip balm.

Meal Prep Overnight Oats

I have recently discovered overnight oats as opposed to classic oatmeal, and I am obsessed. Overnight oats are perfect because they can easily be carried with you in a Tupperware to save time. In my overnight oats, I include; 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup oat milk, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder, chia seeds, flax seeds, almond butter, and 1 mashed up banana. I make my oats the night before, and they come out the perfect consistency the next morning.

Wear a Sweater Instead of a Sweatshirt

In wearing a sweater instead of a sweatshirt, you will be just as comfortable as if you were wearing a sweatshirt, but you will be 5x more fashionable. Also, a sweater takes the exact same amount of time to grab in the morning when getting ready. My favorite sweater currently is the Luxe Cashmere Hoodies by Aritzia.

Master a Makeup Routine

When I am running late, I don’t bother with an entire workout routine. However, I will always apply 5 essential products that instantly make me feel more awake. These products include 1). Benefit Gimme Brow Voluminizing Eyebrow Gel 2). Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer 3). Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder 4). Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara 5). Mario Badescu Facial Spray.

Open Your Blinds

This small task can make all the difference in the morning. Receiving natural light in the morning can boost your mood and your overall happiness, setting you up for success.
