This past Tuesday we made a trip to the new CrossFit studio opening at Coolidge Corner to go and try out a class.

As a dancer, I am pretty much used to fitness classes like Hot Yoga or Pilates. But Crossfit is a WHOLE other territory for me. At first, I was a little scared. I mean I’ve seen pictures, had friends who had done it and heard so many crazy things that come from CrossFit! All I knew was that everyone who did it was 100% BUILT.

Easy to find, the Coolidge Corner studio was only a block away from the T station. The studio was clean, colorful, and had an amazing positive atmosphere. When I first walked in there was a class going on, and I must admit it was a bit intimidating. Everyone in the class was so yoked!

Our class began with a foam-rolling warm-up. The coach, Yosh, showed us different rolling techniques that would really warm up the muscles you wouldn’t necessarily target during a normal stretch warm up. After warm ups, we started our WOD (Workout Of the Day), which included sets of lifts and TRX triceps lifts. My arms were shaking!! But, I loved that I could immediately feel the work. We ended with a 10 minute HIIT workout. These HIIT workouts change each time and are designed so that within these 10 minutes of intense work, people can push themselves to their limit, but have the option to take it easy. By the end of the workout, I was dripping with sweat.

Overall, I had a great time and I highly encourage you to try this studio out! I love that they really stressed safety and learning the basis to prevent injuries. Classes are limited to 15 max so that the coach can guide on a very personal level. They also have great student discounts, but even without one, Crossfit is a steal!!
