Ways to take care of yourselves during finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

WE’VE MADE IT, we’re so close to being done but there’s one last hurdle in the way… finals. Like many college students, I definitely lost some motivation after thanksgiving break and got into a habit of sleeping late (and in), resting more than I have in a while, and being on full vacation mode. It’s hard to get back into the routine of going to class, studying for exams, and preparing presentations, so here are some ways to manage stress and maintain healthy habits while finishing the semester strong.

  1. SLEEP. Please, sleep at least eight hours a day !!! I know it sounds cheesy but you’re going to feel so much better and more productive studying when you’re well-rested. Pulling all-nighters is just going to give you major dark circles and a grumpy attitude.
  2. EAT. This article might start to sound like your mom yelling at you but I swear this is not my intention, I just think sometimes students forget how to take care of themselves in the most basic ways. Nourishing your body and fueling your brain during finals will assure you perform at your best.
  3. MOVE. For those of you sitting down all day to study, make sure you build breaks into your day to rest your brain and walk outside. The weather has been pretty nice lately, so take advantage of it. Or, take a yoga class, ride your bike somewhere, or take a lap around the pool if that’s more of your vibe :)
  4. DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY. Kind of like what I mentioned in the last bullet point, taking breaks will keep you sane and (hopefully) motivated. Studying 24/7 will fry your brain, so take time to color, watch your favorite show or simply hang out with friends. It’s all about balance.

Alright, these are the only tips I have but I hope their simplicity makes them manageable to incorporate during these stressful times. SLEEP and good luck with your finals!
