The Chokehold House of the Dragon Has On Me

The emotional rollercoaster that is none other than the Game of Thrones franchise has left me nothing but emotionally scared. Still, after that season 8 series ending, I always craved to see more. So finally, after three years, I had slightly forgotten about the turmoil until I discovered that House of the Dragon was set to premiere in 2022.

At this point in my busy college student life, I was against starting a new show. I did not have the time to spend countless hours fangirling over some tv show. But then my TikTok page started filling up with HOTD videos and slowly spread to my Instagram. After the first two episodes were released, it was everywhere. So I gave it a chance and started watching the first two episodes, and within an instant, I was hooked. I spent the next three hours of my life reading fanfiction, watching HOTD TikToks, and looking on Twitter for any leaks on next week’s episode. It is now my life.

In any situation, I bring up HOTD and try to get everyone I know to watch it, even if they have not watched Game of Thrones. It is a show that makes me battle with my morals. I am team black all the way because I HATE Alicent Hightower. I am just proud that Rhaenyra Targaryen is living her city girl life.

She has every man in the seven kingdoms wanting her. Yes, she doesn’t have the best taste in men. I mean, her ex-knight Ser Criston Cole did murder someone because he was heartbroken because she didn’t want to leave her throne for him. I mean, I am with Rhaenyra. I would not leave my position as a princess for a guy I had sex with once. Then we have the other man in her life, none other than Daemon Targaryen, yes her uncle, but this is GOT world. This is normal. This man has a lot of growing up to do. He constantly throws temper tantrums and is always exiled from the kingdom. But wow, the sexual tension between the two is impressive. Having a female director really does change things.

The LOML, himbo, got killed in the most recent episode. I have been an emotional wreck since. This man Ser Harwin “Breakbones” Strong, is the strongest knight in the seven kingdoms, yet he got killed off by his brother. WHAT. I was enraged. He and Rhaenyra have three kids together in the time jump from episode 5 to 6, which was 10 years their time. However, HBO writers didn’t show them together at all, then had the audacity to kill him. But thanks to all the fanfiction writers who make the world go round, I am finally getting the story between them we all deserved.

So HOTD has only had 6 episodes. I am now emotionally invested. I spend my days thinking about it. My Sundays are now reserved for HOTD. I don’t get any work done. This show has me wrapped around its finger, and what can I say? I love it. This week’s episode will break me, but I couldn’t care less because I am excited to watch another one.
