We have all imagined the glorious moment where the wind is blowing in our hair as we walk down the beach and a crowd of people simultaneously begin to sing “She wore an itsy-bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini….” Well, maybe that’s just me, but before any of us can turn this daydream into reality, we must start at the place where the biggest and most important decisions are made: the dressing room.  Now I love trying on clothes as much as the next Collegiette, but I’ll be the first to admit swimsuit shopping can be a bit of a nightmare. Instead of acting like a kid in a candy store down the aisles of neon, striped and intricately cut bathing suits, I find myself questioning the dessert I had at Pluckers the night before.

This Spring Break I have decided to offer a proposition to our readers: Instead of taking the walk of shame out of the dressing room, let’s be confident about the way we look! Although it may be a little too late to have that “Rocky” moment of running up the tower steps and fist pumping in victory, there’s still plenty of things you can do to avoid singing the swimsuit blues.

One of the best tips that I can give you (it honestly works from personal experience), is to bring only one of your good friends shopping with you. You want to have someone who’s opinion you value, but if you opt for the Mean Girls styled group shopping date, there’s bound to be playful remarks that might inadvertently bring down your self-esteem and bury all hopes of finding your dream swimsuit. Also, if you’re not comfortable walking out of the fitting room to show your best friend what you look like, then you can be certain that you won’t be comfortable soaking up the sun in public with it on either.

Now, if you’re still not feeling 100 percent confident then there’s no shame in treating yourself to some pampering by stopping by the tanning salon on the Drag or buying some oh-so-cute shades at Tyler’s.
I know this may sound a bit cheesy, but the most flattering thing you can wear will always be confidence and a smile. Once you’ve got that down, you are sure to have that beach movie moment that I know you’ve been thinking of since winter break. Who knows, maybe you’ll even find your very own Channing Tatum look-a-like co-star. Hey, a girl can daydream, right?
