“Strut” These Spring Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Well collegiettes, the weather reports have been posted, and it looks like we are in for a bright and sunny spring! Finally, now that this damper climate has passed, we can end this hell of pullover fleece and tights and emerge from our classrooms, libraries, and so forth and finally live a little more stylishly! If you have lived as I so far this semester (cocooned over in sweatpants and hoodies), emerge like the beautiful butterflies you are, and get reacquainted with fashion. The Mercedes-Benz Spring 2013 fashion week boasted new trends, and reminded us of some old friends. Army print, statement sunglasses, and

leather are all back, and stripes have been reanimated. But where, oh where to begin? I’ve all but forgotten how to dress myself. Going out however, and not lounging about, is a must this spring. My current wardrobe is a bit chilly, so how fortunate that on-campus dwellers such as myself, live next to one of the cutest boutiques in Austin!
STRUT, with one location just near campus on Guadalupe, was voted by the Austin Chronicle for best clothing in Austin- and at great prices too! I knew they could definitely introduce me to some cute spring styles.

This first outfit is a great day and night look for going downtown, or hanging out with friends. The parachute style pants have that cute and bold army print that is definitely still happening.
With these pants, a denim vest, knit tank, and awesome open-toe wedge boots, this look makes for a cool and modern style. The best part is that every article of clothing item here is under $40!
(Top; Sans Souci $36, pants; Hot and Delicious $39, vest; Love Republic $36, accessories; necklace $15, bracelet $15, shoes; Soda.)

If you want something a bit more on the feminine side, but still want to keep to these modern spring styles, this black and white striped leather mini is
a fantastic find.
Leather, stripes, and black and white are all trends that were featured during spring fashion week, and you could definitely strut this outfit downtown and make Austin your own runway. Pair it with flats or a nice wedge and a statement necklace and you’re good for hitting 6th during the day or night time hours.

Spring as we know though, is all about bringing a little color to your wardrobe. This next trend you won’t have to go looking for, your eyes are drawn to it! Color blocking, and big-bold patterns are fads we will be seen a lot this spring.
What I love about this trend is that contemporary look great for visiting one of Austin’s many art galleries. But of course, what are these outfits without their accessories? The weather report said sunny, and oversized, bold and brimming sunglasses are what to buy now. So think big, think bold, and think loud.
(Top; Everly $36, pants; Flying Monkey $59, accessories; necklace $19, bracelet $18)

When we think about spring, I am sure the first things that comes to mind are spring flowers and May showers. That or Panama, parties and what our calorie intake has been these winter months. I love these cool chic looks, but what is a spring wardrobe without a floral dress, paired with an oversized tote, sandals, and a fedora? Bold and patch-work floral patterns bring out the feminine side of any collegiette. (Dress; Audrey accessories; $12, hat $12,
3+1 $45, shoes- Soda, belt tote $ 49)
So however you decide to celebrate the spring season, you can’t go wrong sporting these spring trends. With a pocket-friendly budget, we don’t have to feel guilty for doing a little shopping. Plus, from what I’ve seen these trends will definitely be used more than once. So when shopping, do well to pick quality pieces, because you’re bound to be wearing these styles well into the future.
