A Sonnet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Cow: A Sonnet

Oh quiet child of meadows numb and grey,

With honest eyes, the sun you long to see.

Along a path of green you tread by day,

Beneath the cobalt sky your castle be.

Oh gentle beast, do flowers paint your home?

Do raindrops speckle wind that’s sweet as spring?

Do tree roots grow beneath the earth you roam?

Do tell me, can you hear the red dawn sing?

And do you count the stars from your jail cell?

Or are they stolen from your endless night?

Oh innocent, you don’t deserve this hell,

But bound in chains and mute, you cannot fight.

Oh quiet child, do you cry out in fear?

Your tears aren’t human, so no one can hear.
