Not Less, Not More, But Enough

I’ve asked myself many times

When will you see me as enough

I’ve made a home with you

I’ve been loyal to you

But yet I am not enough

I am always made less

I never asked to be more

I just want to be enough

This short poem I wrote is in regards to the mistreatment and belittling of Mexican Americans. As someone who is Mexican American, I have experienced a lot of instances where I am pushed down by fellow Americans because to them I am “too Mexican” and I am portrayed as less to my Mexican people because I am “too American.” Through this I’ve expressed how I feel and am trying to speak out for all my Chicanx community.
