Before I’m classified as a loather of Louboutins, allow me to admit that I love the flash of red soles as much as the next girl. Red is the color of attraction, and with every step taken, attention is drawn to some seriously fabulous footwear. The shoes designed by Christian Louboutin are the stuff of dreams—amazing lines, luxurious fabrics and, of course, that show-stopping red sole. However, I’m somewhat exhausted with the thoughts of those around me that laud Christian Louboutin as the only shoe designer around. In a poll taken on and around the University of Texas campus, four out of six girls named him as the first shoe designer that comes to mind. I haven’t seen a parade of crimson-colored bottoms marching across the Forty Acres, but I am always on the search for something a tad different from the usual. I would never suggest that anyone cut their shoe shopping spree daydream short, but I gently remind them that other shoe designers do exist. How did our parents decide what to wear before reality television and entertainment blogs were around to direct them? They explored. So explore a few of these choices with more subtle soles, and the same lust-worthy price tags.

Snake-print canvas wedge sandals Lanvin ($1120)

Suede peep-toe with black and ivory marbled resin wedge Raphael Young ($845)

Crystal-embellished silk satin peep-toe pumps Gucci ($1,995)

Claudette studded suede sandals Brian Atwood ($775)

Snake-effect leather platform sandals Camilla Skovgaard ($515)
