Let’s Take a Minute to Appreciate Jane Fonda

Since October 11th, 2019, Jane Fonda has been arrested every Friday as a result of her repeated climate change protests in Washington, D.C. Fonda, who is 81 years old and still proving an unwavering force in these protests, was reportedly inspired by the advocacy efforts of Greta Thunberg. The arrest that occurred this past Friday, however, was quite possibly the most notable Fonda climate protest to date, as the actress had to spend the night in jail.

All of her protests have been peaceful in nature and lasted for a duration of only a few hours. However, Fonda’s protests, as well as her arrests, have garnered significant media attention. In the past several weeks, it is likely that Jane Fonda’s face has appeared in your social media feed or on some sort of news platform that you are exposed to.

Arguably, the most significant aspect of Jane Fonda’s protests (and the reason that they have proven so powerful in publicizing the necessity for climate change protest) is that Fonda is using her celebrity status for the benefit of the greater good. If the actress was not famous, the continued activism and protest of climate change groups in Washington would likely go unnoticed. In addition to increasing the publicity of the movement, Fonda hopes that her continued public activism and protest coverage on media platforms across the nation will expand the number of climate change protesters in an older age demographic.

As you head into the next week, keep your eyes peeled for more news of Jane Fonda’s activism, and do some research on how you can help, to the best of your abilities, to make this planet safer and healthier for your generation and the ones to come. It is only through becoming a voice for the planet and making sustainably responsible choices that we can make this world a better home for all people.
