I Saw this K-pop Group for the First Time – Here’s How it Went

April 12th was one of the best days of my life that I was able to spend with my close friends and with NCT Dream, on their tour “The Dream Show 2” in Houston. NCT Dream is the third sub-unit of the K-pop group NCT and consists of 7 members: Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Chenle, Jisung, Haechan, and Jaemin. They debuted on August 25th, 2016 under SM Entertainment, with their song “Chewing Gum”, gaining over 75 million views! After being an established group for over 6 years, they have gained the attention of many fans from around the world with their catchy and unique songs, and are well-renowned for their amazing dancing skills.

When NCT Dream’s concert was first announced, I knew I had to attend with my closest friends, and so we did. With NCT Dream being one of our favorite groups, we decided to get floor general admission tickets to get the closest view of the boys. With luck on our side, we were able to get to the barricade (aka front row) and enjoyed the concert with an amazing view, and many interactions from the members of course.

NCT Dream opened their concert with their song “Glitch Mode”, and when I tell you I screamed to the point where I lost my voice, I mean it. Screaming the lyrics to this song felt so surreal to the point where I didn’t believe I was there because I never thought I would be able to see them in person. I was especially excited to see this song live because of the dance break closer to the end of the song. Watching the members perform so close to me left me mesmerized as I watched in shock seeing how synchronized they were. Not to mention their live vocals were *chef’s kiss* and made me gain so much more respect for them singing live while also performing challenging choreography.

The song I was most excited to hear was their side track called “Better Than Gold” which has a  synth pop vibe to it, as well as a cheerful rhythm and base. This song has most recently become viral on TikTok amongst K-pop fans due to the vocal heavy bridge sung by Renjun. When the setlist for the concert was released, I was so happy to see that this song was on it and was beyond ready to finally hear this song live. When it came time for them to perform this song, they came out in sparkly suits with stylish sunglasses, representing the funky pop mood of this song. They also had many interactions with the fans as they were able to move all around the stage area to greet them.

The last song they performed was called “Candy”, which is also an upbeat, happy pop song with a unique dance. They came out wearing cowboy hats to commemorate being in Texas, making the whole arena go crazy because it was the cutest thing ever!

Overall, this was one of the best concerts I’ve been to and is definitely one I will never forget. I hope to see them in concert again soon!
