Graduation Check List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

In about a month, a lot of our journeys here at UT will be coming to an end. Even though we’ll be Longhorns forever, there are some things we need to do to prepare for our impending dooms…I mean adulthood adventures! Whatever way you want to look at it, it’s kind of the end of an era. So in the spirit of doing bigger and better things, here is a checklist of the last couple things you need to get done before the big day!

  1. Order your cap and gown, announcements, etc.

You have to get all the regalia that comes with graduation so just go ahead and stop procrastinating this part. It’s really not that daunting! The co-op has free 2 day shipping on the whole grad outfit, which means that if your fear of getting old is keeping you from walking through those doors, just order it online! Whether you’re borrowing someone’s stuff or purchasing your own, the sooner you get it done, the better. You want to give yourself as much time as possible to adjust to post-grad life!

  1. Get that statement outfit

Ladies, underneath that plain old black gown is essentially your last hurrah. You have to wear something that makes you feel gorgeous and amazing as you sashay across that stage like the beautiful model you are.  Don’t feel obligated to wear the traditional dress and heels ensemble! This is your time to shine so wear whatever embodies you the most, whether it be a two piece matching set or a pair of slacks. Just don’t’ forget the perfect footwear!

  1. Senior pics!!!

Don’t you want to look back twenty years from now and remember how happy you were? Pictures do really last forever and you might as well get them professionally done in front of the Tower, looking as happy as can be. Since so much of our time on campus is spent running around to class and stressing about exams and deadlines, it’ll be nice to spend a few hours with a genuine smile on your face and not a care in the world as a camera captures your best angles!

  1. Remember: School is NOT over yet!

As much as you may want to throw in the towel now that you probably have a job or grad school plans lined up, don’t! You don’t want to throw all the hard work you’ve been doing over the past four years out the window because of one lazy last semester. Just push through! There are only three weeks left after all. And honestly if your grades aren’t going to be super relevant for anything in the future, just pass so you don’t have to come back for summer school!

  1. 6. HAVE FUN

Lastly and most importantly, these are the last few weeks where you can be as carefree and irresponsible(ish) as you want. People say that college is the best four years of your life and while I don’t necessarily agree with that, I do think there is a vibe here that is unlike anything in the real world. These are the last moments you have to make memories with your friends; stories for your future autobiography. You may be starting a new journey elsewhere so finish this little adventure off with a bang. And remember it doesn’t matter how far you go, the eyes of Texas will always be upon you, welcoming you with open arms and a loving heart.
