If you’re anything like me, online classes have had you feeling a bit bogged down and unmotivated. Amid this pandemic, it is integral to still leave the apartment for some safe, socially-distanced air. Sometimes, even just the passing of human contact from over six feet apart can do the trick to reignite motivation and excitement in your heart during the school year. Here is my list of the top five responsible sites for productive work sessions.
- Mozart’s Coffee
-
Lake views and fresh air, what more could you ask for? All seating is outdoor and socially distanced at this staple Austin coffee shop. This is my go-to for the crisp air that open water brings paired with delicious sweets and chai tea lattes. Plus, the wifi is free, and they are open later than most coffee shops.
- The Monkey Tree – Barton Springs
-
This space is perfect if you need a zen place to get some reading done or write. Situated on the south end of Zilker Park, right next to Barton Springs, the Monkey Tree is a beautiful spot with all the good vibes. I love to sit in the grass and take in fresh air to motivate my studying. The only real distractions are highly welcome ones of dogs walking past or a yogi in silent practice.
- Merit Coffee – The Triangle or South Lamar
-
Merit is an Austin staple and has been a reliable space for the entirety of my college career. Their espresso is unmatched, and both their indoor and outdoor seating has been socially distanced and is thoroughly sanitized between users. I am obsessed with the chill vibes of all their locations!
- Pease Park
-
For an outdoor location closer to campus, Pease Park is the perfect venue within walking distance from West Campus. The area is green and refreshing, with more than enough room to sit at a bench or table or stretch out on the lawn. If you have a good enough hotspot, it is refreshing to take Zoom calls or classes from the outdoors.
- Meteor Cafe – South Congress
-
The perfect spot for a glass of wine with work – I stumbled across this gem while looking for a new place to study and grab a bite to eat in. Coffee, adult beverages, and yummy food pair with a bike garage ambiance to make for a super sweet study outing. This one is more suitable for writing or doing work since it tends to have more background noise and music.
Stopping the spread and being responsible is so important right now, but that does not mean ignoring our mental health. Recognize what you’re comfortable with, and remember to get out when you can, whether it be to study in a new location or take a break!
