Introducing our “Fit for Summer” 2011 bloggers! These ladies will be taking at least 3 classes at Dancers Shape each week and documenting their journey about achieving THE dancer’s shape for the summer.

Ashley Meleen
Hello! My name is Ashley Meleen, and I am so excited to share my stories with y’all. To cover the basics, I’m a sophomore majoring in multimedia journalism, and I grew up in Austin. I’m not at all an exercise fanatic but I do love dance. I often choose naps or an episode of 30 Rock over a jog or a fitness class. Sometimes I choose the elevator, sometimes the stairs. But I’m on my way to changing that, one step at a time. (Get it? I also enjoy awful puns.)

Ami Hernandez

I am currently attending McCombs Business School for a degree in Marketing. I am very interested in both the music and fashion industry and hope to gain experience  by working in both these industries one day. I am the youngest of four and all my family is from Puerto Rico, except me. I was born in Houston, Texas and have also lived in Colorado for five years. I enjoy singing, dancing, and drawing/painting. I have also become interested in photography lately and look forward to taking pictures at the exercise classes. With one more semester of school I plan to move from Round Rock to Austin. Lastly, I am a very health-conscious person who loves to exercise and trying new restaurants with my friends.

Sharon Tan

Hello readers! I’m Sharon, and I’m a senior at UT from Arlington, TX, majoring in Geography with a minor in French. In my free time I love riding my bike and volunteering with Texas Zephyrs, and recently I decided to run a 10K for the first time. I had fun training with my friends, ran it in my fastest time, and loved knowing I worked hard to reach a goal I set. How beautiful the world would be if everyone lived healthy lifestyles and took care of their bodies! Working toward having a “dancer’s shape” is the next challenge for me, and I’m excited to inspire you to become more active!

Naomi Kuo

My name is Naomi Kuo and I am from Friendswood, TX. I am 20 years old and am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin studying English and Studio Art. My plan for now is to become an artist and/or writer, or possibly a literature guru. I am Taiwanese American and I am a Christian. I am involved in a student ministry called Epic Movement, which is the Asian American branch of Campus Crusade for Christ. My interests include reading, painting, drawing, knitting, sewing, singing, and anime. I also enjoy spending time outside and picking up recreational sports.

Fatima Reaz

Hey! First off I would like to say that I am very excited to be selected for this amazing opportunity. I was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan and recently moved to the US in august 2010, which is when I began my first semester at UT. Even though I had to move away from family and friends, it has been an absolutely amazing experience for me. I love exploring new things and keeping myself open to new, exciting and intellectual experiences. I am very social and find myself making friends easily. Even though, currently I am undeclared in the College of Natural Sciences, I hope to do something in the field of statistics or finance. I have a small family of five (that’s small for me!) and I love them dearly. I am also very close to all my friends and I believe that these people are reason enough for me to love life!

Liz Cocavessis – Her Campus Texas Publicity Associate

Hey ya’ll! I’m a third year student pursuing a double major in Marketing and Economics. Raised in a household filled with Greek heritage, I developed a love for food…ALL types of food. Upon entering The University of Texas, I immediately sought out new restaurants – Flip Happy Crepes, Chez Nous, Botticelli’s, and so forth. These food adventures have truly made my college experience more delicious (and memorable). To make things more exciting, I am an expert at snooping out the greatest deals around town. ? I never buy things full-price and I frequently visit thrift stores to discover unique findings. Who knows, maybe my next treasure will be a Kitchen Aid Free Standing Mixer (my dream kitchen appliance). Haha!

Bernice Chuang is a fourth year double majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Communication Studies-Human Relations and doing the Business Foundations Program (aka business minor) at the University of Texas at Austin. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Bernice is a fan of good country music and yummy barbeque! At UT, Bernice is a resident assistant at an all-female residence hall and currently serves as a senator representing her residence hall, Kinsolving, on the Resident Assistant Association. She also leads a small group bible study for Asian American Campus Ministries and sings with her campus ministries’ a cappella group. When she’s not juggling her various roles and commitments, Bernice enjoys exploring downtown Austin, shopping with her fellow RA staff members, reading books on faith and spirituality, learning how to cook and tackling various dessert recipes, and spending quality time with friends.
