It’s that time of year again! You can finally unplug those headphones and turn that Spotify playlist off of private. You have our permission to have your Christmas music at full blast! (Unless you’re at the PCL, HC is not liable for any angry hushes or security guards you may face.) Even though most of us love some good holiday tunes, not everyone wants to listen to the same old Christmas songs that we’ve had programmed into our memory since we were forced to perform in our grade school winter plays. Living in Austin, we all clearly have different musical tastes. This is why HC Texas has compiled the best holiday albums for a variety of genres to fit your specific melodic needs.

Michael Buble “Christmas”
Traditional/Top 40
If you’re looking to wrap some presents while keeping warm by your virtual fireplace in your dorm, then this is the album for you. Michael Buble, being our modern-day Frank Sinatra, will take you back to your most unforgettable holiday memories and soothe you with each melodic track. This is the most
traditional album on the list and with classic favorites like “White Christmas” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas,” you’ll be staring out your window trying to convince yourself that the dirt specks on the pane are actual snowflakes. It is Texas after all.

She and Him “A Very She & Him Christmas”
Folk
The sounds of vintage guitars and the simple sounds of the holiday season is what you can expect from this album. Not only do we love “Her” for her style but also Her voice. Zooey Deschanel’s strong but charming vocal performance perfectly complements the relaxing tone of M. Ward’s vocals. You’ll be taken back in time with the retro sounds of these classic songs. Their rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” will have you falling head over heels with their playful spunky tune. This is the feel-good album of the season and the best album to study to.

Blake Shelton “Cheers, it’s Christmas.”
Country
The Voice judge and country all-star has put together a sweet and southern Christmas album, just the way us Texans like it. With the help of a lot of his famous friends, he’s added a little bit of a twist to all the classics. Keeping his upbeat sound on “Jingle Bell Rock” (a duet with his wife), but then
slowing it down on the song “There’s a New Kid in Town,” fans get the versatility they expect. The real momma’s boy in Blake comes out as he joins musical forces with his mother on “Time For Me To Come Home.” Who doesn’t love a singer who can have a duet with his wife and his mother on the same
album?

Bright Eyes “A Christmas Album”
Indie/Rock
Okay you little hipster, you didn’t think I forgot about you now did you? Bright Eyes are known for their heartfelt songs and this album is no different. With the acoustic guitar, bass drums, and the occasional piano this album gives off a very coffeehouse feel. The song “White Christmas” is soft and sweet, while “God Red Ye Merry Gentlemen” has an upbeat catchy tune. This album will quickly become a staple in your playlist (as it is in mine).
HC Top Track: Little Drummer Boy
Whether you’re snuggled up in your dorm studying or skipping to the holiday beat as you head over to class, let these albums be your soundtrack to the rest of December!
