Buy or Bye: Glossier Products You Need, and Those You Don’t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Glossier has been around since 2014 and has had many rises (and falls) in popularity since. I discovered Glossier years ago from Youtube beauty guru reviews, but you may have more recently heard of them from TikTok reviews. As an avid Glossier user, I felt it was only right to save you money and tell you the products you need, but more importantly the ones you don’t.

Buy:

1) Balm Dotcom

The Balm Dotcoms are arguably the best product Glossier has. The adorable packaging that looks like a paint tube, fun colors and scents, and hydrating formula make them the perfect lip balm to have in your bag all the time. While I have yet to test out the new vegan formulation and new applicator, I am hopeful my favorite product will remain in its number 1 spot. If you try them out, make sure to pick up a birthday cake one (it’s shimmery and smells amazing) or a berry one for a magenta tint.

2) Lash slick

The Lash Slick is definitely a natural-looking mascara, so if you are a full-glam person I would suggest skipping this purchase. However, if you’re anything like me and absolutely hate the look and feel of mascara, (but your lashes still need some help) this is the mascara for you. It lengthens and lifts your lashes without looking like you even have any mascara on. The tubing formula also makes removal a breeze.

3) Haloscope

The Haloscope highlighters are the perfect no-makeup makeup highlighter. They genuinely make you look like you are glowing from within. I get asked all the time how I get my skin so glowy, and this is the only trick I have up my sleeve. The outer circle is the highlighter part, but there is an inner circle of moisturizers that give the lit-from-within vibe.

4) Ultralip

The Ultralips are simply not talked about enough. They are a balm, lip gloss, and tint all-in-one product. This will be the most gorgeous thing you have ever put on your lips, hands down. They are insanely hydrating, with buildable colors for whatever vibe you are feeling that day. My favorite shade is the Olivia Rodrigo one in Pisces, but Villa is a close second with its warm rose color.

5) Cloud paint

I am pretty sure everyone has heard of Glossier’s Cloud Paint before. The adorable paint tube packaging is iconic, and the longevity of this product is insane. I swear one tube could last you years. Liquid blush is all the rage right now, and I guarantee this one won’t disappoint. Try out the color puff for a natural, slight blushing look or storm for that cold-girl glow.

Bye:

1) Lipgloss

Don’t get me wrong; it’s a good lip gloss. The glossiness is beautiful, but it’s a bit sticky. The real downside in my opinion is the price. You can definitely find way cheaper drugstore lip glosses that are going to do the same thing. There’s just nothing that special about it.

2) Brow flick

This was a great product for the first few uses, but the brush tip applicator quickly becomes bent and frayed. I have seen other people also complain about this, so it’s not just a user error. Other than that, it’s a decent brow product. Again, it’s just nothing special.

3) Boybrow

This one might be surprising since BoyBrow is one of Glossier’s most popular products. It does in fact thicken the brows in a way I have not seen another product do, but it just does not keep your brows in place at all. So, you have to use Boybrow to thicken and then another clear gel on top if you want your brows to stay put. Save the money, and buy another eyebrow gel.

4) Futuredew

I wanted to love Futuredew so much, but the scent of it is very strong and unpleasant. It’s not even advertised as having a scent, but I am assuming it’s either the oils in it or the plant-based extracts that add the scent. I also have found that it can look a little more on the greasy side instead of glowy like advertised. Instead, you could spend the $26 on some serums for your skin and actually have skin that glows.

5) Skin tint

Even for a no-makeup makeup look, this is a little much. I mean this is beyond sheer coverage. For $26, I just do not see how it is worth it. Unless you want the tiniest hint of coverage, like if someone whispered coverage at you from miles away, I would skip this product.
