Music has always been a big deal for me, but this semester it seems I have my headphones in all the time! For someone who only hit 50k minutes on my Spotify Wrapped last year, this year’s starting to look like it’ll be pretty different…

Spring semester has flown by, and it’s crazy to think that so much has happened just in 4 months. To push through the last few weeks before finals and the sweet release of summer, here are the 4 albums that have been on repeat for me (among many more — but these are the highlights)!

AURORA – Daisy Jones & The Six

The first album on my list isn’t by a true music act! From Amazon Prime’s adaptation of the book Daisy Jones & The Six, the fictional rock band that takes over the ’70s music scene has their own hits that needed to be created for the show. One of my greatest wishes after reading the book was to hear the music of the AURORA album, and it did not disappoint! This revisiting of a classic rock sound in 2023 was a daunting undertaking, especially when it was supposed to sound like one of the best albums of a great decade for music! Seeing as this album takes up my entire March receiptify (no I am not joking, I think 8 out of 11 songs are in my top songs of the month), I can’t recommend it highly enough!

My Top Three: Regret Me, More Fun To Miss, Two Against Three

emails i can’t send fwd: – Sabrina carpenter

The repackage of her hit album released at the end of 2022, Sabrina is my new queen of pop music. Some tracks are a clear response to the rumor mill following early 2021’s SOUR by Olivia Rodrigo, but some are much more personal and about topics and the more private parts of her own relationships. With catchy beats in songs like Nonsense and heart-breaking lyrics in decode, Sabrina’s latest has proven to be a really solid album!

My Top Three: Feather, Nonsense, skinny dipping

the record – boygenius

The full version of this album came out only at the end of last month, but it is going to be in my rotation for quite some time. Boygenius is a group formed by indie queer artists, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, all successful solo artists in their own right. The songs on here are softer than the other 2 albums I’ve described so far, but the lyrics are heartbreaking and describe sapphic love stories as told by sapphic women, which is something I will always support and adore!

My Top Three: Not Strong Enough, True Blue, Emily I’m Sorry

sos – sza

This album blew up when it was released and for good reason! After an amazing album release with Ctrl all the way back in 2017, SZA has stayed relevant since then. However, her full album comeback exceeded all expectations for me! I, unfortunately, wasn’t one of the lucky ones who got to see her at Moody, but SOS definitely is tied to key memories of this semester for me, like paddle boarding and road trips and even late nights studying. If you haven’t heard this album by now, you’re missing out!

My Top Three: Snooze, Gone Girl, F2F

I hope these music recommendations are something fun for you to explore — and a good companion for the crunch time of the last few weeks of the semester!
