Preparation for Season 2 of House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon Season 1 follows Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, her life, and the struggles she will have to face. Rhaenyra’s mother passed away in childbirth, which leaves her father, King Viserys Targaryen, widowed. Rhaenyra being his only child, is named heir to the iron throne. The hand of the king, Otto Hightower, has other plans involving his daughter, Alicent Hightower, who happens to be Rhaenyra’s friend, to get married to the widowed king. This puts a strain on their two daughters’ friendship. 

Alicent would soon become pregnant and give birth to a son, Aegon Targaryen, and Rhaenyra would be forced to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon. House of the Dragon seems to love a good time skip, as they do it twice in the show. According to Twinfinite, the first time jump is between 10 and 15 years. Alicent’s son Aegon has gotten older, and she had more children as well as Rhaenyra. There is gossip going around that Rhaenyra’s children are not her husbands, as they resemble a knight named Harwin Strong. Alicent also seems to have grown more bitter over the years, as she has made numerous comments towards Rhaenyra and her children. 

Tensions would skyrocket after Alicent’s second son, Aemond Targaryen, had his eye cut out after getting into a fight with Rhaenyra’s children. This causes Alicent to be outraged and she charges at Rhaenyra with a knife, complains of how much Rhaenyra gets away with, and slices her arm. King Viserys forces them to make up and makes no demands of justice for his son. Rhaenyra leaves Kings Landing and returns eight years later, where she had to defend her son Lucery’s claim because of his parentage. A fight breaks out, and Rhaenyra leaves home once again. Later that same night, her father, King Viserys Targaryen, passed away. 

Once Viserys Targaryen passes, Otto Hightower is quick to enforce his grandson on the throne. Word soon reached Rhaenyra about this, and her sons were sent out to make allies with the lords of the realm. Her youngest, Lucerys, who took out Alicent’s son’s eye, is sent to Storms End, where he meets Aemond, who is already there. Aemond demands Lucerys give him his own eye, which he refuses. Aemond then chases him on a dragon, which leads to Lucerys’s death, and season one ends.

There have been behind-the-scenes photos of some fan favorites, such as Aemond Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, and more. 

One of my personal favorites Aemond Targaryen, played by Ewan Mitchell, was seen behind the scenes practicing his sword skills as he swung it around in a serious manner. He was also seen walking around with his signature blonde Targaryen hair tied up and covered in another behind-the-scenes video. 

Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, was seen with Phia Saban, who plays her daughter Helena Targaryen, in a carriage going around the city of Kings Landing. 

And there appeared to be background actors who played knights on a field after a battle seemed to have taken place. There were also background actors dressed as regular civilians in the streets of King’s Landing. 

Season two release date: 

The prequel to the beloved series Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, was released in August 2022. The show was released on HBO and gained huge success with fans. Fans, including myself, loved seeing the history of the Targaryens before their downfall in Game of Thrones. So, it’s not surprising that fans could not wait to hear more about where season two was going to pick up and when it would be released. 

Season two is expected to kick off right where season one left off. The story will follow the aftermath of Lucerys’s death and how those around Rhaenyra and herself will seek vengeance. The story will also follow Rhaenyra as she goes to take back her throne from her brother Aegon. Viewers can expect to see friends, siblings, and families split into two factions during the war. These factions will be known as Team Black and Team Green. Prepare to be stuck on who’s right and wrong in this complicated series. 

Season two has been filming since April 2021, and there has been new casting information for new characters that will appear and play vital parts in the story. According to the CEO of HBO, Casey Bloys, season two is set to premiere in summer 2024 as of now. 

Season one was definitely a rollercoaster ride, and season two is set to look very promising. With fighting, wars, and dragons, it’s a must-watch television show. I will be tuning in once it releases, and I hope you will too!
