Cozy Healthy Habits to Embrace This Fall

To me, fall is like reset season. It’s the start of a new school year and a season that is so different from summer. The drastic change almost begs you to shift your usual routine. It’s the perfect time to implement new healthy habits into your routine that embody the cozy spirit of fall.

Cozy habits are not only an excellent way to embrace fall, but they’re proven to calm your nervous system and lower cortisol levels. During the school year, when life can feel most hectic, creating a lifestyle where you feel settled and calm can be a welcome oasis.

However, coziness shouldn’t become a type of escapism. Avoidance will likely worsen any anxiety or stress you’re facing, so make sure to check in with yourself and ask if you’re using cozy habits to distract yourself or as a way to recharge. Used right, these habits can help you feel your best for the fall.

Here are 5 cozy healthy habits I’d like to add to my fall routine:

  1. Aimless Walking

Cooler weather and a soft breeze make fall walks more gratifying to me than walking in humid summer heat. Walks are great for clearing your mind. I love admiring the changing leaves and stepping on the crunchy ones that’ve fallen. Paying close attention to your surroundings can help you to be present.

  1. Making Nourishing Meals

Fall is a great time to transition to comforting foods. Try incorporating seasonal produce into your meals, like root vegetables. Personally, I’m no chef but my favorite thing to make is oatmeal. During the fall, I love cooking apples with cinnamon and adding them to my oatmeal with a dollop of Greek yogurt.

  1. Nighttime Yoga

Yoga can be amazing at any time of day, but I find nighttime yoga the ultimate source of relaxation. Try dimming the lights and taking a moment to stretch and meditate before bed to prepare for a comforting night’s sleep.

  1. Screenless Activities

Too much screen time can make you feel antsy. Choosing a screenless activity in your spare time instead of being on your phone can help with feeling more focused. I suggest finding an activity or two to pour into this season: mastering a magic trick, writing snail mail, or making a fairy garden. The possibilities are endless.

  1. Talking to a Friend

Socializing with friends is a perfect way to boost your mood. Fall offers many ways to enjoy time together. You can take the chill route and stay indoors, or you can find a fun fall event from everything the city has to offer. Regardless, talking to a loved one is a great way to take a breather and remind yourself why life isn’t so bad.

Conclusion

Adjusting to the seasons makes embracing their beauty much easier. This season, allow fall to be your fresh start. Instead of intense hustling, take each day as it comes and do your best to enjoy and improve every day.

Hi, my name is Natallah, and I am a Chapter Leader for the Temple University chapter of Her Campus. Beyond leading the chapter, I love to write, and I hope that through my perspective and point of view on topics we often keep to ourselves, you can feel seen and know that you’re not alone in what you’re going through.

I’m part of the graduating class of 2028 at Temple University, but I’m originally from New Jersey. I’m currently majoring in Psychology and hope to one day pursue a career in the medical field.

For fun, I love thrifting—especially in Brooklyn! I enjoy trying new foods, making spontaneous memories, and watching Sex and the City (pretty ironic, I know!). I’m excited to see what’s in store as part of the Her Campus community, and I hope my experiences resonate with you as a fellow college student.
