Coming from a person who reminisces about what life used to be like, I encourage us all to pick up our phones and start recording. Nothing hurts me more than thinking back on a special moment in my life and having no physical record of it!
Do you ever look back at your childhood, when you made mud pies with your siblings and friends, and reminisce about when life was simpler? Don’t you ever wish you could visually look back at those moments? I know I for sure do. And I know a lot of people would say, “Enjoy the moment and put that phone down.” Now, don’t misinterpret my words and think, oh my gosh, I need to have my phone on me all the time to record every second because time is slipping away. Yeah, that is very unrealistic. I’m suggesting that you take a few pictures here and there throughout your week and take pretty pictures of what you’re doing. Take pictures of you wearing that dress to class and drinking your lavender latte in the park. Maybe my inner romanticizer (is that even a word?) is speaking right now, but along with having more digital content, I need you to start adding sparkles and glitter to your life. Start seeing even the small “insignificant” moments as special and exciting, and then record them.
To introduce some background knowledge here, recording refers to having a record of something. You don’t have to literally take out your phone, press record, and make vlogs. You could make a scrapbook, junk journal, album, or photo collage. (Here is my personal spread on Pinterest.) These are all ways you can start building your own personal time capsule that you and your kids/grandkids can look back on.
As college students, we are living through one of the critical stages of our timeline. This is when we start transitioning from teenagers to professional adults with new skills and passions. The process is not easy, and the college experience is definitely not for the weak. But college isn’t all about stress and studying and pulling all-nighters (please don’t actually do that). College is also about the new relationships you create, the fun Friday night lights you admire from the stadium, the bright flowers you enjoy around campus, and the process of decorating your dorm. This is where you pull out that phone and start recording.
If you’re anything like me and actually like to post on social media, then making vlogs might just be your thing, as well. I recently started making vlogs and posting them on TikTok. This is your sign to start posting your drafts and be your own creative self.
Regardless of what recording method you chose, I hope that your main takeaways from this article are to live your life to the fullest and record yourself being your most authentic and happy self. I hope that in 50+ years, you look back and look at the stacked albums with pictures of when you were young and say, “Wow, I am so glad I came across Marichuy’s article back in 2025!” Now, go conquer the world, and make sure to share it on the Gram!
