5 Easy and Delicious Dorm Room Recipes!

The BLUU can be a great place to meet up with friends and eat burgers and soft serve, but when you eat there day in and day out, it can be nice to have a little variety. FEAR NOT! Just because you’re tired of BLUU food doesn’t mean you need to resort to the Cheez-its in the vending machines downstairs or the CLIF bars you save to scarf down on your way to your 8 a.m.!

Here are some quick, affordable, and easy recipes to make in the comfort of your own dorm!


Omelet in a Mug


  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp. skim milk
  • 1 tbsp. of grated cheese
  • 2 tbsp. diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp. diced onion
  • Salt/pepper


  1. Combine all ingredients in mug, whip until the ingredients are well mixed.
  2. Microwave 1 ½ to 2 minutes.
  3. Enjoy your omelet in a mug!


Taco in a Bag


  • 1 bag of Doritos (flavor of your choosing)
  • 2 tbsp. of shredded Mexican cheese
  • 2 tbsp. of shredded lettuce
  • ¼ cup of taco sauce


  1. Microwave taco sauce until warm.
  2. Squeeze bag of Doritos until slightly crushed.
  3. Pour in taco sauce, cheese, and lettuce.
  4. Grab a fork and dig in!

Mac in a Mug!


  • 1/3 cup of pasta
  • ½ cup of water
  • ¼ cup of milk
  •  ½ cup of shredded cheese


  1. Combine water and pasta in a mug.
  2. Microwave for 2 minutes.
  3. Repeat this for at least 2 to 4 more minutes, stirring at each 2-minute interval. Eventually the water will be completely absorbed in the pasta and the pasta will be cooked through.
  4. After the pasta is cooked to your liking, stir in milk and cheese.
  5. Eat up!


Bagel Pizza


  • One plain or asiago cheese bagel
  • Tomato sauce or tomato paste
  • Shredded cheese


  1. Cut bagel in half.
  2. Toast the bagel (optional).
  3. Spread tomato sauce/paste evenly on both halves of bagel.
  4. Sprinkle the cheese on top of both halves.
  5. Microwave for 1 ½ minutes.
  6. Enjoy your bagel pizza! 

Nutella Mug Cakes


  • ¼ cup of all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup of Nutella
  • 3 tbsp. of milk
  • ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
  • Ice cream (optional)


  1. Combine all ingredients into your mug and stir until the mixture is even and smooth.
  2. Microwave 1 to 1 ½ minutes.
  3. Once cooked all the way, throw a scoop of ice cream on top and enjoy!
