4 More Secret Study Spots at TCU

I’m finally graduating in May, and it’s been a long haul. Over the past four years at TCU, I’ve jumped from a BS to a BA, applied to graduate school, and started writing a senior thesis. Needless to say, I have confronted various demanding workloads.

One of the most important things I have learned about myself during college is that I do not study well at home. If I am home, I just want to relax, clean, or address one of the 1000 tasks that circulates my brain. But, I also do not want to study away from home. Home is so comfortable and has everything I need! It is a cruel paradox.

So, how do I combat these competing interests? I curate excellent study spots at TCU — places I want to be. Read on for four unique spots on campus that will help you meet your study goals. This article focuses on outdoor, spring-appropriate spots that let you lock in while enjoying the sunshine.

4. Library Loop

Walking straight through campus, there’s a curved inlet along the library protected by a gazebo-like structure. Inside, there are a few tables and chairs. I think this spot has the perfect amount of ambient noise to help you focus. There’s decent shade and easy access to snacks, printers, and classrooms.

3. Beasley Fountain

If you take the south door into Beasley, you’ll walk right into a tiled area with a small fountain. Hang a right, and there’s a hallway of tables across from high windows. This spot has plenty of sun while providing AC! The background noise of the fountain is especially good for long study sessions where music grows tiring.

2. Boschini Music Center

Outside of the Boschini Music Center is some of the most unique architecture on campus. The front patio has a skylight framed by trees. You can sit at one of the tables beneath the overhang and enjoy some shade while still having a framed view of the sky. It’s one of my personal favorites!

1. Intercultural Courtyard

If you live on campus, the intercultural courtyard is a must-study spot. There are outdoor warm lights and lots of tables. In full disclosure, this can be a higher traffic spot, but the cute landscaping makes it feel comfortably tucked away.
