Realistic New Year’s Resolutions for Every Collegiette

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

While this New Year’s Eve was most likely a party for many of us collegiettes, the new year itself has the potential to be productive and successful, but also fun! It all starts with creating realistic resolutions that every collegiette would benefit from!

1. Get Enough Sleep. As a college student, I’m sure you’ve heard this plenty of times. This semester, you should get at least six hours of sleep each night.  It’s easy to get caught up in homework late at night, but the key to long-term success is getting a solid night of sleep!

2. Watch your spending, especially during this semester. You’re going to want that extra cash saved for spring break, or even the summer! You don’t truly need that pair of $60 heels as much as you think you do.

3. Finish your work at least one day before it’s due. College students are known for procrastinating. But think about it…when were you most stressed out last semester? It was probably when you waited until the last possible minute to type that 10-page research paper. This semester, why not plan to finish it a little early so you can get some sleep, reduce your stress and earn a better grade?

4. Don’t forget about people that you don’t go to school with.  Yes, we’re all busy during the semester, but it’s important to remember the loved ones from home. Spend time Skyping with your best friend from high school or give your mom a call every now and then. It’s good to hear how things are going outside of your college campus, and those relationships will be important once you graduate.

5. Try something new this semester! Now is your chance to start fresh. Attend a few lectures on something you’ve never heard of before or go to a cultural event you wouldn’t normally be interested in. You might be surprised at what you learn. It’s important that we set time aside to discover new parts of ourselves – it’s all part of the college experience!

Good resolutions are all about being realistic, especially with our busy and stressful schedules. Not only do you want to address things in your life that you want to change or improve upon, but you also want to make sure that you don’t set goals so high that they become unobtainable. All in all, the last thing you want to do is give up on yourself this semester.  Remember: new year, new you!
